Description

THE INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER One Christmas wish, two brothers, and a lifetime of hope are on the line for hapless Maelyn Jones in In a Holidaze, the quintessential holiday romantic novel by Christina Lauren, the New York Times bestselling author of The Unhoneymooners. It’s the most wonderful time of the year…but not for Maelyn Jones. She’s living with her parents, hates her going-nowhere job, and has just made a romantic error of epic proportions. But perhaps worst of all, this is the last Christmas Mae will be at her favorite place in the world—the snowy Utah cabin where she and her family have spent every holiday since she was born, along with two other beloved families. Mentally melting down as she drives away from the cabin for the final time, Mae throws out what she thinks is a simple plea to the universe: Please. Show me what will make me happy. The next thing she knows, tires screech and metal collides, everything goes black. But when Mae gasps awake…she’s on an airplane bound for Utah, where she begins the same holiday all over again. With one hilarious disaster after another sending her back to the plane, Mae must figure out how to break free of the strange time loop—and finally get her true love under the mistletoe. Jam-packed with yuletide cheer, an unforgettable cast of characters, and Christina Lauren’s trademark “downright hilarious” (Helen Hoang, author of The Bride Test) hijinks, this swoon-worthy romantic read will make you believe in the power of wishes and the magic of the holidays. • Clever, Cute - Perfect Christmas Read!
I adore a cute holiday read and this one satisfied! I didn’t know how this one would turn out, but I ate it up. Unlike anything I’ve read before- highly recommend!

  • so cute
Thought I would read a Christmas book to get me in the holiday spirit. I really enjoyed The Paradise Problem. This is the perfect blend of “Groundhog day”, “hallmark Christmas movie”, and romantic comedy with a tiny bit of spice. I thought it was really cute and fun and I enjoyed it a lot.

  • second chances and the magic of the holidays
The story follows Maelyn Jones, who finds herself stuck in a Groundhog Day-like time loop during her family’s annual Christmas vacation. After a particularly rough year, Mae’s one wish is to find out what truly makes her happy. When she wakes up on the plane heading back to the cabin after a disastrous end to the trip, she realizes she has a chance to relive the holiday and maybe even rewrite her future. Mae’s journey is full of humor, heart, and a bit of holiday magic. As a mom, I found her relatable—trying to find balance and happiness amidst the chaos of life. Plus, the cozy, festive setting of the cabin and the warmth of her family traditions made me want to curl up with a hot cocoa and savor every page. Christina Lauren’s writing is engaging and fun, with just the right amount of romance and self-discovery. Mae’s attempts to break out of her loop are both hilarious and touching, and watching her navigate the ups and downs of her relationships is truly heartwarming. It’s like a perfect holiday movie in book form, with all the feels you want this time of year. If you’re in the mood for a lighthearted, uplifting read that’ll leave you smiling, "In a Holidaze" is definitely worth picking up. It’s the kind of book that makes you believe in second chances and the magic of the holidays. ... show more

  • sweet!
As I was reading this, I was thinking this should definitely be next year’s Netflix Christmas Movie. And sure enough, it’s been picked up! Maelyn’s favorite place in the world is the cabin owned by her parent’s friends from college. Every Christmas and every fourth of July, 3 families converge on the cabin to take part in the same traditions. And Mae loves all of it. Including her friend Andrew who she’s been in love with for approximately half of her life. But according to their families, she’s supposed to marry his younger brother Theo who she only sees as a brother. Mae goes through her week at the cabin and it is disastrous. And then while she and her family are on the way to the airport to go home, they are hit by a truck. And when Mae wakes up, she’s on her way back to the cabin. Because this week hasn’t happened yet and she’s got a chance to do it over. The only person she confides in is Benny the bachelor and together they figure out what wrongs to right. This book is about going for what you want instead of what’s expected of you. It’s about occasionally putting yourself first. And it’s about figuring out what actually makes you happy. It was very cute ... show more

  • It's all about your expectations
Listen...I mean.. I am a former English literature major from a liberal arts college and am therefore entitled to play my part as a "literary snob". Long have I browsed through much more difficult reads, attempting to make myself feel higher than. After stumbling into a career as a high school and middle school ELA teacher, I, quite literally, -shelved- reading books for silly enjoyment. I focused too much on the memoirs, the autobiographies, and the essayists hype that had taken over social media (and I swear to you if I see one more basic white woman post Glennon Doyle's "We Can Do Hard Things" mantra one more time, I will unlearn the English language). I bought this book for the "Groundhog Day" structure that was advertised. But to be honest,it's not that. (Side note: for a fresh take on this, watch Palm Springs movie on Hulu) It's a "romance" where the protagonist's childhood crush may or may not become a reality. Haven't we all had a crush on someone's hot older sibling? I sat around on Christmas (home alone, with Covid, quarantined) and read this book in a few hours. Easy read. Flows nice. I laughed under my breath, judged the authors' plot twists, empty characters and stakes-- "ha! Yeah.. okay.. sure", I would say, snidely, and under my breath. If HBO somehow adapted this as a screenplay the main crush, Andrew, surely would be a murderer, as he is far too kind, hot, and amiable. I hoped the book would be over, fearing it would kill my brain cells or I'd forget to aim for more "civilized" reads. I laughed at how unrealistic the dialogue was. BUT dang, if that book had continued for 300 more pages, I would've read every one of them. A page turner it is. As I near the age of 30 next week, I've spent a small fortune on anti-aging regimens. When all along, Christina and Lauren have been waiting for me, their works transporting me back to my high school self. I was giddy when the main characters kissed. I felt the "will they or won't they?" butterflies from 2006 rom-coms. I knew what was going to happen in the end, (because duh), but felt a twinge of sadness when it was all over. A guilty pleasure they have given us. A light underneath our masks. An option for guilt-free and mindless entertainment that's not on Netflix. And, even though the authors wrote this pre-pandemic, I find it ironic and hilarious that the families at the cabin are technically social distancing. What?! Something that we can relate to, and something that feels remotely normal?! Yes, I say. Yes. It's good. i'm in. I'm here for more. I am now staring at my mailbox, waiting for the next Christina Lauren book to arrive. I feel like the 5th grade version of me that refused to leave the hotel room on family vacation so that I could read Harry Potter's "Goblet of Fire" in 24 hours. Just don't tell my book snob friends. ... show more

  • Fun holiday read
This is a fun holiday read. It honestly would have been better without the knock off Groundhog Day element. Particularly because it felt like the writers, who i usually enjoy, weren’t into it either. It sort of disappears after a few chapters. The book was much better after that.
