I replaced my exterior light and the old mounting box was not tall enough. This is perfect. The included screws meant to attache the fixture to the base are a bit too thick and the heads strip easily. Fortunately my new fixture included three sets of different size mounting screws and one of the sets fit perfectly. Couldn’t find any of the larger mounting blocks that work with 4.5 inch lap siding. I was able to make these work perfectly by notching an additional 1/2 inch off each side (see picture). After notching, the block mated nicely. Notching is easy, I did mine with a hack saw in about 5 mins for both.

This worked well and looks good once I got it up. Unfortunately the screws did not seem to work correctly and I had to go pick up some different ones. I had a unique problem where the previous lights were installed directly onto a box inside the siding, so I had to add holes on the outside of the original location. This seemed to work fine and with some caulking to prevent bugs from getting inside, they came out quite nice. I hope they last as long as my vinyl siding! ... show more
