  • Everything I needed for a laptop repair
I have a 10-year old Dell laptop that needed fixing. It started with a hard drive failure. So, I decided to replace the hard drive instead of buying a new laptop. In addition, I needed to replace the keyboard and power button and cable that were giving me problems. This toolkit was perfect for my needs. The laptop, itself has lots of screws that needed to be removed to open up the computer. Also, the keyboard needed to be removed to fully get to the inside of the computer. This toolkit had all that I needed to remove the components of the laptop. Contrary to other reviewers, I found the screw driver bits to be magnetic, which was a big bonus given the small size of the screws and deep recesses to where they attach to the computer. The kit has plenty of driver bits for almost any job. I found that they were quality made and did not strip the screw or the driver head, itself. It also contains some pry tools, suction cups (good for mobile phones), and an anti-static strap that you should use to avoid any electrostatic charges that could wreck your components. All-in-all, this toolkit gave me everything I needed to repair my laptop. Instead of spending $2000 on a new laptop, I purchased a new 1 TB hard drive for $50, a new keyboard for $25, and a new power button and cable for another $25. Add to that the price of this toolkit, and I spent a total of $150 to repair my laptop. It took just an hour or so of my time to install the new hardware and to install a clean version of Windows 10 from a USB drive. Now, my laptop is running like new and should last another 10 years or so. This is a quality repair kit and well-worth the money, even though I did not find the cost to be expensive in the first place. ... show more

  • Great Tool Set for Techie Types
This kit provides all the tools needed to perform basic upgrades or a battery replacement in current 2024 consumer electronics. I appreciate the the variety of included bits and the included 1/4 inch driver adapter. My kit had a defective Flex Extension and 1/4 inch adapter. They would not hold the bits, so they were pretty useless. I contacted iFixIt support about the issue and they responded quickly and sent the replacements within days. I really appreciated that there was NO HASSLE INVOLVED. They didn't ask 20 questions or demand pictures of the defective items. I'm also impressed with their site. They have step-by-step guides for many products describing, with pictures, how to open the device and replace or upgrade common components. Very Helpful!!! The only item missing from the kit is a 3-prong ESD Dummy plug & extension grounding cord for the supplied ESD Strap. -- THIS IS A MUST BUY. ... show more

  • Wow, it's actually worth the money.
I have to be honest, when I saw the price tag for the my initial reaction was pretty negative. "What does this kit have that makes it 300% better than the other $20 Chinese tool kits?" To put things in context, I bought a small driver and a set of bits that fit in little round stand for $3 maybe a decade ago and have used it to this day. Otherwise I made do with buying little extra security bits/drivers when necessary and the cheapo spudgers/picks that came with phone batteries and screens. It worked pretty well, too - there have been plenty of laptops, computers, phones and electronics that I've taken apart and put back together during that time. Finally I decided to "graduate" and get a more complete set. I tried getting a $15 kingsdun kit - it was a low price for the # of bits and had good reviews, which is pretty much how most min-maxing geeks behave. When I got it everything seemed a bit chintzy with rough finishes, but solid. The driver squeaked when I pressed my finger against the end and undid some fasteners. No biggie, I can just add some lube. The bits didn't go in and out of the next socket very smoothly... but no they still fit and worked alright. The bigger problem was that I couldn't quite reach the rubber grip when trying to use the driver with 1 hand - the rest of the driver's body is a smooth, slippery aluminum/brushed steel that provides no grip. So I said to myself "Oh what the hell" and decided to just order the iFixit kit and even at over 3x the cost I have no regrets. The term "precision screwdriver" was made to describe this tool. It is just the right length with a nice, balanced weight. The knurling and super smooth turning action makes using the driver feel fantastic while the bits slide in and out perfectly smoothly while also being perfectly snug. The rest of the kit is well thought out and high quality as well. The box for the precision screwdriver and bits closes with heavy duty magnets = no hinge or clasp fatigue. The box itself has a metal plate in the back that causes it to stick to a thin magnet attached to the cover. This magnetic sheet can be used to old metal parts and fasteners when you have the whole kit laid out and ready for action. I think the people who have problems with getting the velcro to stick probably half-assed the re-packing process somehow - I haven't run into this issue so far, maybe there were some bad runs? I mean OK, the tweezers aren't exactly surgical grade but they're plenty good for electronics work. In other words, if you are looking for an electronics tool kit, this kit is the way to go. I wouldn't bother with anything else really. Buy once, cry once! ... show more

  • Gold Standard Precision Screw Set
I bought 5 precision screw driver sets that topped the Amazon search. They all were poor quality and badly designed. All were returned and I almost gave up my search for a set. This iFixIt set was recommended by a co-worker and I’m so glad I didn’t settle on keeping one of those other sets because this set is absolutely amazing. The quality of parts are fantastic and it has everything I needed. I love how easy it is to remove bits and I can’t believe how much of a game changer it is to have magnetic tips. I was able to open my laptop, upgrade the ram and swap the HDD for an SSD in less than 15 minutes. Previously it took much longer because I had been using poor quality bits from home depot and not having a magnetic tip made it frustrating to remove screws from the long screw holes. ... show more
