I ordered this antenna for a replacement. I read the couple of 1 star reviews and was a little nervous about the review regarding the resonance frequency. I decided to order this antenna. First, yes it's not 2 meters in length, it as actually a 1/4 wave length antenna for 144 Mhz and 1/2 wave for 440 Mhz; this is what you would expect Also, I did my own VNA SWR testing after installation and found it was quite acceptable without tuning. In the previous posted 1 star review, it had an image which was not very detailed (actually too much detail IMO) showing a smith chart and I believe I've seen the same image on other antenna reviews. I've attached images showing my results. The antenna is best set up in the middle of the car's roof. If you place it on the sides, the SWR will increase. If you need a stronger hold, you can remove the rubber base, however I did not find that I needed to do so as I had no issues with holding. The rubber base did not affect the SWR as it can sometimes do with HF mag-mount antennas. Coax is RG-58 solid core. it's standard for most of these types of antennas and there should not be much loss due to the coax length. The connector seems to be build well and did not see any issues with the connector or the base attachment. So, I give this a thumbs up! ... show more

    • Not tuned, do not use before you check it with a VHF SWR meter.
The seller falsely claimed the antenna was tuned. It was way off. If I had keyed up (transmitted) at 50 watts, I'd need a new radio. It also has a bad connection in the base as when I'm driving I get rapid shorts when listening to local frequencies.

Great 2 meter antenna for the money. Put the antenna into the base all the way till it bottoms out and pulled it up 1/4' SWR 1.01. Very easy!

As you can see, it is resonant at 187mhz and also at 473mhz . It also is cut at 452mm which, according to the cut chart is for 155mhz, it not resonant there either. The swr at 145mhz is 3.92:1. It would certainly burn the final out of any radio at that ratio.

I used this for my handheld scanner while mobile (check with your state for regulations). Signal pickup was good. Magnet is very strong. Held on at 70 mph into a 20 kt wind. Definitely worth the price!
