Note: Select the R-size hydrofoil for pontoons up to 26 feet and 115HP.

I usually never write reviews but this made the list for doing so. I purchased a Hydro Shield last spring on my Monterey 214fs with a 5.0MPI and Alpha 1 outdrive because I was looking for a solution to porpoising. Well the Hydro Shield fixed that problem and also added some performance from getting up on plane sooner and also cruising at a lower rpm. Now the fun part. I recently had the boat in Florida and being a northerner on Lake Erie i quickly found the moving sand bars to be tricky to navigate and ran into quite a few dragging the outdrive. Hit some harder than others but thankfully because of the Hydro Shield I never tore up the prop or damaged the skeag. Here is where the Hydro Shield saved my but. All loaded up and trailering home on I-75 somehow my outdrive decided to spring a hydraulic leak and lower the outdrive. A nice passer by in the fast lane let me know, thankfully. Pulled off the highway fearing the worst and low and behold the Hydro Shield was scraping the pavement, completely melted but saved the outdrive. I will never be without one on my boat. Update: Excellent customer service. Dale responded to my review, although not necessary, and he stands by the product. It seems the product I received had a manufacturing defect, he was able to fulfill the warranty extremely fast. I have seen how well this product performed on my Yamaha 200hp and I recommend it. Not to mention how well it protected my prop in the sand bar. Thank you again for the wonderful product and service. Orig. post. The product did great at protecting the prop but the moment it touches bottom it begins to warp. As you can see in the pictures, it didn’t last very long. I do feel better that the prop wasn’t affected but I’m disappointed that once it touched a sandy bottom it didn’t last very long before it snapped. I followed the instructions during the installation. However, I believe that either the material should be stronger or the aluminum brackets should be longer. ... show more

This was an easy enough install and helped my deckboat with an alpha one throw a better wake for surfing, however, I bumped it into the shore once and now the mounting brackets are bent so that its leaning to the right and it caused the tip of the skeg to snap off where the hole was drilled. The plastic is also very rough now as if someone has taken sand paper to it. It has also robbed about 5mph of top speed from the boat. I need to get new brackets since mine are bent and I dont know what to do about the rough texture of the plastic. Ill probably end up going with a traditional whale tale and stainless skeg protector from here. ... show more

    • Planes Faster but lost some top end speed

I installed this item per instructions and even called owner to verify install would be right prior to drilling. After easy install, I gave it a try on the water in my bass boat and it got on plain much faster. I ran full power and noticed a loss of speed however in use. I tried it and removed it just after running and ran again and got my better top end speed back again. I now have my item and past the return window, so have one now just sitting in my storage. I should have tried it sooner to return but didn’t. I was hesitant to install hearing rumors of warranty issued using these although not necessarily true. When I decided to try it, it was already too late to get a refund. Lesson Learned and my loss. I had hoped it would get on plane fast but not loose speed. ... show more

I installed this on my 19 ft. Bayliner and love it. Steering improved considerably and the boat went into plane mode much quicker and will plane at a much slower speed. I had damaged 2 props in the past and now, I feel more comfortable knowing I have some protection that may prevent any future damages. ... show more

The online reviews and videos is mostly showing rental companies that use this to protect their assets, but it seriously degrades performance. I have it on my 10ft dinghy with 25 Evinrude e-tec. The only reason why it still is on is I don't want to have exposed holes in my skeg, and it does provide protection from below, (reefs) but it came at a huge performance loss. In hindsight, I should've just kept buying $60 alu props instead of a $200 stainless steel prop and trying to protect it with a $170 hydro shield. ... show more
