When I worked at Kinko's this was called "the good stuff". It is. It is a clean bright white registers as a 161. It seems a little more than 20 pound paper by touch, as if that it were a detriment. This is running through my new Canon ink jet--clean lines, no color bleed. Big hosannas, this is--assuming you are not looking to lay down a lot saturated ink--great for double sided printing. I have an innate familiarity with printer's ink and paper, dad being in the printing game far back as I can remember. Here's a quick tip for judging paper: Hold a sheet up to the light. Do you see any pinholes? If it's HP paper you won't see any pinholes. Now do the same with other multipurpose brands: Kodak, Staples.... Notice the pinholes? This HP paper is as good as it gets. As far as "weight" is concerned, it's what you get used to. If you feel, as some have said, that this 20lb feels thin, it's probably because you've gotten used to something heavier. Do you really require a heavier paper? The question deserves your utmost attention. Today's emphasis is on conservation. By using a 20lb or lighter weight stock you'll be joining those throughout the planet who are doing their bit to preserve our environment. ... show more

I'll be honest I didn't use this for the printer. I was using it to practice book binding. I went to test to see if my calligraphy inks would feather on it when using an glass dip pen. I was amazed to find that not only did the inks not feather on this paper like so many others, but it didn't bleed through to the other side either. Yes I can still see the ink, obviously, this isn't what it was really meant for. It was just really lovely to not have to worry about it bleeding through when writing a sentence. So I'd suggest this paper to anyone who wants to practice with glass dip pens before they buy the more expensive calligraphy paper. The only thing I wasn't a fan of is the corner of the paper being smushed in due to the package being rattled around in shipping where there wasn't any bubble wrap, and the bubble wrap (those big air bag things) were actually deflated on the other side of the package. Thats just something to keep in mind if you need this for something more professional when printing in a printer. ... show more

Man, oh man! This office has certainly been through mucho reams of crappy paper in our well-intended goal of saving a buck. Over the past few years, we’ve settled on two HP papers. When purchasing in ream size, the cost per pack is excellent. The quality is far better than you’ll find for higher cost in the big box stores. This purple multipurpose version is used around here 8-% of the time. The brightness of 96 is superb and the 20 pound weight is just right, even for letter writing. For times when we need to impress, we also have the yellow version on hand. It’s 24 pound weight and a bit brighter, still. ... show more

    • Super high quality bright white paper--not bad for the price really

You know what? I looked at this paper and thought to myself. Bah! Too expensive, even if it is "HP brand." I ended up buying it because I was too lazy to drive 30 minutes (each way) to Staples. Well . . . this is some good paper it turns out! I use it on my laser printer and it works fine and has never jammed. It has a soft feel, as if it is coated, but not like true laser paper. It absorbs ink (good for inkjet) and you can write in pencil, pen, or highlighter on it, but it works VERY well on laser as well. It is fairly tear resistant as well (you know . . . for paper). Ultimately it comes down to this. I like this paper a LOT better than the cheap stuff I normally buy. The colors look vibrant--but a lot of that depends on your printer of course. This is what you call a "bright white" paper. You can see the difference when you hold it up to plain "copy paper," which has a grainier feel (less pressed). So, was it worth the price? I think so. I am still only 60% through my ream. This has lasted me a lot longer than I thought, and as compared to other papers on Amazon it really is a bargain. If you have Prime, or you spend enough to get free shipping, it will save you a trip, and other than something handmade (paper), I doubt you can find anything better. This HP paper is of the highest quality and brightness. All one has to do is pick up a page to know it is not that cheap stuff they use at work. People always comment on my print jobs, "Great Paper." It is sturdy enough to glide through every machine or printer I have tried without jamming. The print finish is 1st rate. Sure it costs a little more, but you definitely get your money's worth. This might be a little more expensive (depending on when you buy it) than a ream that's on sale at Staple's or Walmart, but it also seems to be of higher quality than the average 20lb paper. For as little as I use copy paper at home, I'm happy with this purchase. It also holds up pretty well with most fountain pen / ink combinations I've tried. ... show more
