The rug is a good copy of Persian designs and a popular color scheme. A hand made Persian silk carpet of this type of design and size would cost between 20 and a 100 times more. It would be less functional because you would be afraid to put it on the floor, and it is too big for the wall, so it may sit in a closet or an out of the way place where children and pets cannot find it. This one is washable and cheap enough that there would be no major worry about losing your investment (because it is not an investment - just a carpet). Yet, aesthetically, it is pleasing and gives the look and feel of the art that Persian carpets represent. For an 8' x 10' rug, machine washing may be difficult, but I think it will fit my washer. You would not want to do that to your authentic Persian rug, silk or wool. ... show more

This rug is pretty impressive. I can see how the low pile, the thinness, and the backing allows you to wash this in a washing machine, but I haven't tried that just yet. What I have tried is walking across the rug and sitting on it, and the texture is very soft and comfortable. The blue color in particular is a little brighter in real life compared to the photos on the listing, but it is still appealing to look like. (I would trust the close up picture of the rug on the listing for color accuracy). ... show more
