  • Fun miniature tesla coil
It was great to teach how tesla coils work, without messing with dangerous levels of power. The instructions were limited to a parts list, a schematic and a blurry picture of the assembled product, so it took a bit of extra care to make sure the LED polarity was correct, and the one unused solder pad inside the coil area was confusing but in the end it worked. The primary coil (single red wire loop around the cylinder) needs to be spaced properly for best results, the way it is tightly wrapped on the photo leads to a smaller arc as the magnetic flux isn't evenly spread around the coil. The spark is so small that the music is barely audible, so the circuit might need to be tuned by using a different capacitor to adjust the resonant frequency and this get a bigger spark, which makes for a fun secondary project for the device. ... show more

  • Fun, but limited instructions.
Fun project, but limited instructions. Good thing I learned something in electronics school. The little neon lit up while in the plastic bag and melted a hole through the bag.

  • Needs to be tinkered with, secondary coil came deffective and cheap LEDs
This tesla coil might need to be tinkered with. After we assembled it, it did not want to arc and the secondary coil came deffective. We had a replacement secondary coil from another tesla coil that was broken luckily, but if you do not have a replacement coil and yours came deffective, then you can't expect it to work for you. On the first day of working on it, After the coil wasn't arcing, we thought it could be the red led that was apperently soldered on wrong (small mistake) so that had to be removed and placed on the right way. It broke while trying to do that, so that meant getting a new red LED. So we took off the red LED left it with no LED for some time. i noticed the arcs got smaller after some time and it drew tons of current from the power supply, which i felt was not so good. It was about 2 amps at most. The other one we have draws 1 amp or 0.80 amps. Then we finally decided to put a new red LED on it, and the arcs stayed the same size. To finish it off, we put a fan on the heatsinks. after working on it, It was all finished later and now it is fully functional! Plays music, lights up flourescent and neon blubs, and does what it is supposed to. It is not something i will recommend for younger kids, but for ages 14 and up totally great. I just am glad it works and i did not have to return it! I am giving it 2 stars because of the secondary coil and the cheap LED that breaks if you try to desolder it. And also you need to have expirience in electronics if you make this. ... show more

  • 1 out of two worked and a missing part.
I am an experienced electronics builder (55+ yrs). I bought two of these units, one for me and one for one of my students. One kit worked fine. The other was missing the non-polarized capacitor. I used one I had in inventory, but the unit did not work. The documentation that describes the product is in English. The documentation that gives you the techical information you need for assembly is in Chinese. You will need to use Google translate to figure it out, especially which LED goes where. I also don't like the orientation of the heatsinks. As they are now, you can't remove the screw holding the transistor. So to replace one of the transistors, in an attempt to troubleshoot the problem, you need to unsolder the heatsink too and remove both as a unit. Not the best design option. ... show more

  • Works great
Ten-year-old grandson did all the assembly. (He has soldering experience). It work better than expected as soon as he connected it to power. We used an inexpensive 24-volt LED light strip supply. The electric arc is small but still impressive. It easily lit the included neon bulb. He can't wait to demonstrate it at his school. ... show more

  • Great product - use Google lens to translate
The Tesla coil came with great instructions and easy to follow schematic although the only issue I had was the more detailed instructions and inventory lists were only available on the Chinese instructions so I use Google lens to translate those to confirm I've gotten all the parts required before building ... show more

  • Disappointing
Product arrived om time, disassembled. Which would have been fine except it had no instructions on how to put it all together. Nor how to use it once completed. So disappointing would be my one word description of this product.

  • Shipped with missing parts and no english instructuctions
And no, the electrical sequence diagram does not count. Very user un-friendly, do not buy unless you are an electrical engineer and could already put one of these together in your sleep.
