  • The difference is startling.
I do papercrafts mostly. I had gone through 2 of the cheaper laminator. When I use this the pressure and heat makes my project much stiffer. No need to have to back. Love it.

  • Tried other methods, this is the way!
I wanted to foil my wedding invites and I already had a small laminator and a large clamshell heat press. The laminator didn't work well at all, and the heat press did okay, but overall was not ideal. It's a lot of trial and error to pick a heat setting and timing, and even at the tightest setting I could get with the press still closing, it didn't apply even pressure across the prints. Overall, ~$100 for my sanity and saving materials was worth getting the Minc. I feel like I tried to buy cheaper foils and use cheaper tools and it was quite a waste of time and materials. I didn't believe the Minc could work that well, but it really applies a TON of pressure to the print and it heats up much faster than my heat press does. Only thing I don't love is the large pocket. I wish it came with 2, one large, one small. If the 12" pocket isn't fed very accurately, the skew will make it get caught in the laminator near the end. I had to cut mine down after it got chewed up my second time using it. I'll have to go and buy another if I ever want to do larger projects. For foils, I tried TCrafTX, iCraft Deco Foil, Minc, and Coolprints. Minc and Coolprints foils are the only ones I recommend. For a printer I recommend Brother HL-L2370DW with the following settings: HQ 1200, Text, Thick Paper (match to your paper type) and Improve Toner Fixing checked in the Advanced settings tab > Other Print Options > Improve Print Output. ... show more

  • Jammed
I had it for less than 3 months and it jammed and stopped working. I hardly got any use out of it. Needless to say, I will not be repurchasing.

  • End your suffering, my crafty friends...
...and just get a Minc. If you do textile (toner) foiling there really is no more consistent machine. I used a regular laminator for years. It was just cheaper, but very hit or miss, mostly miss. I finally broke down and got a Minc. Yes, it's a bit pricey in comparison to a Scotts laminator, but there is so much less waste of foil or mistakes, like overfoiling. I use H&H Sign Supplies toner foil which works like a charm, in class with the icraft deco and minc's foil, only you get a lot more of it. ... show more

  • So worth it
The media could not be loaded. I have been wanted to do foil for a while now. I bought some decor foil and tried it on my regular laminator but it did not work. I finally ended up buying this machine and I am so happy with it! Can’t wait to make some custom favor boxes and menus with my machine !

  • Turbo laminator machine
I’ve been eyeing the Minc laminators for a while now. I have an older small cheapo laminator that works sort of ok, but I kept hearing about the way these work in crafting videos, especially with foils. I drooled a bit, but wasn’t ready to spend on one quite yet. I was absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to try this larger sized Minc laminator. It does much larger pieces than I could before and that’s surprisingly helpful. I can fit a 12 inch wide piece of laminating material into this machine easily. The machine was packed simply in an attractive box with a couple pieces of Styrofoam on either end that kept it from banging around. There is a piece of gold foil and 3 toner printed tags to use to do testing with the machine…to try it out with the foiling technique. The instructions are a simple small easy to read and follow booklet. The machine I got had a piece of the sticky protective plastic covering the entire top of it to keep the pink glossy exterior nice. Operating this laminator is simple. There’s a plug for power, an on/off switch to turn it on, and the front buttons are different heat levels. Set on 1 for thin materials and the higher setting can supposedly do chipboard. I haven’t tested chipboard yet. To do the tag I chose setting 2 just to be sure it was enough, since setting one mentioned vellum and other very thin substrates. I stacked the tag and foil properly and put them into the machine. I made sure they were nice and flat inside the provided protective folder. It went through fairly slowly and when it came out the other side I was able to take the foil off the tag…which left the design in the black toner coated with gold foil. Lovely! Looking at crafting videos online gives me many other ideas for ways to foil with, and use a good laminator, so I am delighted that this works so well. This is truly a laminator on steroids. It has plenty of oomph to do most any technique you would want a laminator to do. I laminated a couple large regular laminator folders with white copy paper inside so I could make stamp storage boards for an organizing project I am doing. It worked fantastic. I struggled with my small laminator to get those to come out right. I had to run them through with smaller folders only one at a time…sometimes having to run them twice to get a good seal. This Minc sealed beautifully first time and the pieces are flat and perfectly done. I’m delighted with this laminator so far. Now I can plan some projects that use a machine of this quality. I will be able to enjoy laminating techniques instead of struggling so much with them that I don’t like doing them. This machine makes me WANT to laminate…everything I see! It’s pricy. There’s no question about that. It’s quite a bit more than the inexpensive models out there. However, if you enjoy doing crafts with laminating this machine might absolutely be worth the investment. Crafts is what I do. I don’t spend on a lot of other things, so I’m thrilled to have it in my craft room. It was on my list of future “wants”, so getting it was really exciting. I know I will be doing a lot more laminating in the future. ... show more
