Top Amazon Reviews

  • UPDATED; Great when new out of the package but locked up bad in a couple of weeks.
Updating my review up to 5 Stars because I believe that despite my problems - they do make a great product and they have great, responsive and genuine customer service - probably the best I've ever gotten on Amazon as I received detailed responses to concerns and received a replacement for the bearings that locked up. I wanted to do them a solid so I looked further into the bearings that failed and believe they can be fixed. I purchased the Bones Swiss Speed Cream + Cleaning Unit set here on Amazon for $17-ish, took apart the locked up bearings, cleaned them and re-lubed them. They seemed to work, so I made a note of where the re-lubed bearings went on my board and kept the other non-relubed 'survivors' back on as a control sample. I ALSO purchased a set of "Zero Nutz" which are plastic axle nuts that have built in bearing protectors on them - just in case the Heady Shakes' problem had to do with debris getting in the retainer gap which does seem wider and more prone than other bearings I've used. I then skated as much or more distance than I did when the bearings originally locked up. No problems whatsoever, and the bearings ride smooth and FAST as they did when they were new, including the survivors from the original set. During my downtime from the malfunctioning Heady Shake bearings I switched to Bones Swiss Ceramics and while those are impressively fast and hard to beat, the Heady Shakes are actually comparable in spin and momentum retention when working properly. (Yes, both are way better than Redz). So my current theory as to the locked up bearings is a possible lack of lubrication and possible dust getting past the retainer (which seems to have a bigger gap and has cruder edges than other retainers I've seen so maybe this is a product point that can be improved). In event of a lockup the bearings can be fixed, and if you can keep the bearings protected, there won't be problems. Granted, the possibility of having bearings lock up after 2 weeks is still not optimal when I've not had such problems with any other bearings - but if you have the means to clean and maintain, the results and performance are very much worth the price and extra work. For me this turned out to be a great product in spite of the initial difficulties and I'm riding these instead of the Swiss Ceramics because they feel just as fast and possibly faster. I'll continue to do performance tests out in the real world. I'll try to update any findings or will note if any of the survivors or re-lubed Heady Shakes lock up again but so far , so good. I like Heady Shake's approach to how they make their product - caring about if their product performs and is manufactured on a technical level - and how they handle customer service. It's different from other companies - most who focus on image alone. I admire their spirit and attention to their customers and that makes me want them to succeed, as they're willing to put the effort in. Original Review: 30+ year skateboarder here who still uses a board as a primary mode of transport; from Bones Swiss to janky rollerskate bearings, I've seen and done it all. Bought these Heady Shake bearings due to the positive reviews and the unique color and take on the business. When I received them I was immediately impressed with the presentation, look and initial performance of the product. The gold and white looked great. I did various spin and roll tests and I could immediately feel that they were faster than my Bones Reds. Did some light usage getting around town but noticed a considerable decrease in speed after a couple of weeks. Upon further investigation I found one of the bearings had locked up completely to the point where the balls couldn't even move in the bearing channel. The locked up bearing felt very "dry" and any trace of lube seemed to be flaky and grime-like instead of like oil. I've never seen anything like it and don't know how it could have physically degraded that quickly. Of ironic note is the other Heady Shake bearing from the same wheel was still spinning faster than the Redz I had to replace the locked up Heady Shake with. A couple of Heady Shake bearings in my other wheels are starting to get loud and rattly so I have a feeling its only a matter of time before they too may degrade to the point of unusability. I'm still within my return window but as it seems other recent reviews are reporting similar lockups (bad batch maybe?) I'll see if the manufacturer can do anything and I'll try to update this review with the results. ... show more

  • Super smooth!!
Color: Darkside
Used these as a replacement in my bauer hi-lo skates. Original bearings only lasted 4 uses before getting excessive play in them. Installing these with the oil was easy. Nice and tight no play and wheels free spin amazing. Skates have never been smoother or faster! Absolutely no complaints. Also the removable retainer will make for easy cleaning and regressing. I'm expecting many many uses from these. These will be going into the rest of my family's skates for sure. ... show more

  • First time buyer, very impressed
Color: Darkside
This is my first time trying this brand, but I received very good results. I liked the design and for the price you get really good quality out of it. This is just as good or even better than my bones red bearings I have used in the past. If I need more then this is who I will buy from again.

  • Super smooth ride
Installed these on my stock Element board and the difference was immediately obvious. Definitely will order these again the next time I need bearings.

  • Great bearings but not the best bearings
Great bearings. But not the fastest. Worth the money but if you want super fast. These are not it. BUT I still love the bearings. They are super smooth and still fast. I ended up buying bones swiss and they are slightly better then these

  • Fast reliable
These bearings were wonderful to put in my longboard. They were great. They make my board 10 times faster.

  • GREAT BEARINGS!
In a "scientific experiment" to find as much "free speed" as possible, I've been trying out various bearings in my skateboard wheels. I admit, I'd never heard of Heady Shake before, but rolled the dice on them. They arrived well packaged in a tin, with a foam liner, with each bearing and spacer having an individual slot. They seemed to be made with quality construction, so I immediately popped the dirty Amphetamines out of my wheels and replaced them with the Heady Shakes. I know there's always a placebo effect whenever you change a "performance" part. Whether they're skate bearings, or a car intake that guarantees 15 extra horsepower. Right out of the gate the skateboard felt faster. Of course the would.... they're brand new and haven't gotten dirty yet. Historically, my skate bros HATE my boards because the trucks are always too tight. Still, I told them to loose them up and take some spins on them to see if they felt faster than before. All of them agreed that it was definitely faster. I've tried them out in four different size/hardness wheels that either had Bronson G3, or Powell RED bearings in them. Everybody tried them out and everyone admitted the boards seemed faster. So far I've been EXTREMELY pleased with these bearings, and just bought another set for a buddy I skate with. In addition to being a great product, not long after delivery, I received an email from "Lia" at Heady Shake, just touching base on how everything has gone with the purchase/delivery/reception/quality of everything. They DEFINITELY have EXCELLENT customer service on point. So if you're in the market for some cost effective bearings that are quick and don't drain your bank account, try out some Heady Shake bearings.😁👍 ... show more

  • Very high quality bearings
Color: Darkside
I usually stick with Zealous bearings for my longboards, but I've been hearing great things about the Heady Shake bearings. I decided to give them a try in my Orangatang Stimulus wheels on my Loaded Poke CX setup. These bearings were a breeze to break in, and they offer decent speed. So far, I can't really tell a difference compared to Zealous, and the fact that I got the Heady Shake at a better price makes it an excellent value. I. I'm really pleased with my purchase and plan to provide updates as I continue to ride with them. ... show more
