  • This is a fun, fascinating book on harvesters big machinery buffs will love ...
If you’re into big machines, you probably already know what harvesters are. Harvesters are machines that farmers use to get ‘er done. What you might not know is that there are many different kinds of harvesters. The reason there are so many is because we have all kinds of crops. Can you name a few crops that you think a farmer would need to collect? Some harvesters include ones that cut grass, collect grapes, corn, wheat, and even “forage crops [for] animals on the farm.” One harvester you will probably enjoy reading about if you love big machines is the combine harvester. They aren’t just big, they are huge! Big machines do have big engines and the “combine needs a lot of power to run.” If you check out the picture that shows the inside of the cab, you can see a lot of controls and switches. The combine is a very interesting machine with a lot of jobs to do. For example, when a combine harvests corn it “pushes the cornstalks to the cutter,” cuts them up, and then removes the kernels. You can read about how the combine works, but you can also watch it hard at work in the fields. You’ll also learn when the harvesters are used, why they need to work quickly, how long the farmers work, how farmers used to harvest crops, and you’ll learn many other, fun, fascinating things about harvesters. As a beginning nonfiction chapter book, young wannabe farmers and big machine buffs will love this book. Anyone who’s around preschoolers know that once they start playing with toy vehicles of any type, they’re hooked. It’s a natural progression for them to want to read and learn more about working farm machinery. They will also learn the basic setup of a nonfiction book, something that will carry with them as their reading skills advance. This book pops with colorful photographs of a wide variety of harvesters and has captioned material that adds to their knowledge. In the back of the book is an index, a visual of harvester parts, some Fun Harvester Facts, and additional recommended book resources to explore. A QR code will allow children to see even more pictures and videos.
