Love this speaker. It will not work for a large party but if you are having a small gathering or at the beach or camping it is perfect. The sound is clear and has good base. I also purchased the carrying case. Highly recommend it.

I’ve owned the Studio 2 and I will say there are differences between the products. The Studio 2 had more bass but on the flip side, was harder to transport and when the legs broke off it was an absolute hassle. With the 5 you have less bass (roughly 20% less), however, the sound quality is absolutely superb for its price. At $130 dollars, very few speakers will deliver the crisp tone that this speaker provides. It can easily fill a medium sized room at 75% volume and is ideal for cooking, cleaning, working out, or just music for get together a with friends and family. I’m strongly considering buying a second as they have a joint pairing capability and could EASILY rupture your eardrums if you’re into that kinda thing. I’m extremely happy with my purchase and will say I will always come back to the brand as they’ve focused on the quality of sound, it’s portability, and have kept up with the modern design and color tones. I’m really enjoying this little speaker. Thought it’s not really small compared to some other models out there, I chose this one over the smaller cubes based on personal preference. I find the sound, for such a small form factor speaker, to be amazing. I have regular game nights at my house, sometimes outside, and I find it fun to have nice rich sounding music while the gang is here. Everyone commented on the quality, and several blasted it to see what it could do. The battery lasted all evening long, and was still going strong when I shut it down. When I purchased mine, the gray was cheaper than the black. That’s not the case now, and honestly I would have rather had the black to avoid any dirt/smudges. ... show more

Still breaking in the speaker at the time of this review, but the speaker so far is much better than the onyx 3 it’s replacing. The bass is way fuller and more than adequate for a small-midsize houseparty/kick-back. Due to the design of the woofer, the speaker can also hit impressively low frequencies, especially when compared to other bluetooth speakers. I don’t really care about trebles and midrange frequencies, but they sound pleasant on this speaker (ie aren’t harsh/tinny at high volumes and sound accurate). Haven’t tested the battery life because I keep it plugged in for the most part. Looks great and the new ‘handbag’ design makes this speaker far easier to transport, and you don’t have to worry about the cheap plastic legs on the previous versions breaking. ... show more

Yes, reviewers think this has great sound, as do I. To begin with, there are not really any instructions. The quick start guide is just a few pictures. I wanted to pair with an Echo device, which should have been simple, but the first 4 tries the Echo device told me it did not pair. It showed up on the Echo screen, but would not pair. On the fifth try it paired and worked great. Since then, pairing may or may not happen, but always does after enough tries. There must be some simple reason why pairing is so difficult. If you expect to get basic sound from the speaker you will be blown away! the sound quality out of this speaker is full Rich clear and crisp! It says 8 hours of battery life but if you're listening to it at 75 or 80% of power you will get about 2 and 1/2 to 3 hours battery life. My recommendation is to keep it plugged in and you will get 100% power and never ending awesome sound! I've had a lot of these Bluetooth speakers and none of them even are close to the quality of this Harman kardon! This is a must-buy repeat this is a must buy item! ... show more

I have owned an HK Onyx 2 for 3 years now and I was so impressed, I purchased another Onyx 2 in another color for a different room. I saw this speaker on sale and I was looking to purchase the updated model Onyx 5 and I am not disappointed so far. This speaker has great overall sound and enough bass to fill a large size room. I love Hardman Kardon, I have had the Onyx 4 since it came out and have loved it. I prefer the 5 to the 4 and here is why... the sound quality is just better especially when you pair 2, the bass is deep and exactly what you will want. The handle is so much easier to use than the handle at the back of the previous models, I’m glad to see those kickstands gone. So far I have no cons to say about it. Buying it from these guys is so much cheaper than directly from the manufacturer!!! ... show more
