  • The Best Coffee Press, Period!
Color: Clear Size: 400ml
When I was investigating various coffee presses, the reviews for the Bodum was on average the best and so I was pretty sure that I would be getting a Bodum. However, I stumpled onto the Hario Coffee Press that initially was intriguing. When I read the only review of the Press (Two stars) it turned me off from it. After 3 days of mulling over which press would be the best (and there are many), I decide to roll the dice with the Hario and buy a 17 oz. Bodum Press. The reason a decided to try the Hario Press is because the engineering just seem right, the construction just made a lot of sense. The only down side is that the Hario Press is just 13-14oz and my mugs are 16oz, but that is not much of a problem because I can always top-off my mug with the hot water in my tea kettle. When they both arrived my son and I immediately put them to the test. He is more of a coffee drinker and I am more of a tea drinker. Well to our surprise they both performed very well! The tea and coffee from both presses are exquisite. However, the Hario Press has the advantage of keeping the drink hot for a long time since it is basically a Thermos Bottle and it will give you the ability to have your tea or coffee steep for a long time and not worry about the water getting cold. The drink in the Bodum Press starts to cool rapidly after the hot water is poured into the pot. So if you plan to alway drink up your drink soon after it is made and not let the tea or coffee steep for a long length of time, then either one will suffice. The review that tears up this press is completely wrong. The design is nowhere near shoddy. It is as durable as the Bodum Press. He claims that the plunger is too short well I don't know exactly long does he wants the plunger to be, but the plunger in the Hario leaves the same amount of space between the bottom of the filter to the bottom of the glass as the Bodum. You don't want to squeeze into the tea or coffee and eventually destroy your filter. He complains about the top being too loose, well mine fit very snug. Now as normally the case, the best is not cheap, but considering the range of attributes that this press possesses, it is worth every penny. Lastly, it looks cool! ... show more

  • More about appearance than good function
Color: Clear Size: 400ml
This is OK but the wood collar at the top is in 2 halves which don't join up very nicely and are only held together by the leather tie. It is not tight and flops around which makes the jug feel pretty unsteady when you come to pour. We have stopped using the collar all together. The plunger still looks good without it. The other point I would make is that the large volume of air in the thermos section means that the insulation isn't that effective ... a lot of heat goes to just heat up the void so you really need to pour hot water into the plunger first to pre-heat it or it loses too much heat while you are waiting for the coffee to brew. The plunge mechanism and filter mesh is good. By getting rif of the collar and pre heating we are able to make good coffee but the feeling I get is that this unit is more about appearances than good function. ... show more

  • 7/10 press - great looks, although at the expense of some utility
Color: Clear Size: 400ml
Was a little concerned before making the purchase because of multiple reviews criticizing the delicacy of the glass, and the tendency to break after little/no contact. Decided to go with it anyways, and have been very pleased. It does feel as if it would break given a fall, but then, so would most french presses. Nice design. The wooden grip is a little loose, and can make pouring difficult. Easy to clean and keeps coffee warm for a decent period of time. Probably overpriced though - most Bodum presses can get the job done just as well, this one just looks a bit classier. ... show more

  • It’s just a French press
Color: Clear Size: 400ml
It’s just a French press. Nothing more and nothing less. I bought it to use as an example for my classes that cost does not equal better or higher quality

  • Best Coffee (and tea) press ever!
Color: Clear Size: 400ml
This is a work of art. Makes the experience of drinking tea and coffee more enjoyable. Highly recommended. I'm not sure why all these reviews say it breaks. It's fine and works great. Maybe these people used it in a freezing cold house and then poured boiling water into it to crack it. I'm not sure - but it works well for us. Enjoy upgraded drinks. AND - another thing is this design makes it easy to clean because the tea and coffee don't get stuck in the strainer. ... show more

  • Glass Explosion
Color: Clear Size: 400ml
This french press broke in under 2 weeks (less than 7 uses). It just exploded while it was sitting still in the kitchen. I had steeped and plunged the coffee, poured myself a cup and gone in to the living room to sit and listen to the morning news. I heard small explosion of glass in the kitchen and rushed back in thinking maybe somehow something had fallen and exploded on the tile floor because that is what it sounded like. After searching I saw some shards of glass on the counter and saw that the side just blew right off of the outside layer of glass. I've included a picture for reference. I had been wary since starting to use it since the user manual has numerous warnings stating "handle the glassware with the utmost care", "be careful when handling chipped or broken glass parts", and "please follow your local regulations for disposal". This is in spite of the fact that it claims to be constructed with heatproof glass that is rated to a temperature difference of 120 degrees celsius (245 degrees fahrenheit). The water I used was in the 190s fahrenheit, so I wasn't over taxing the manufacturer's specifications. This is indeed a beautiful press, and perhaps I just received a defective unit, but it feels flimsy, and it broke in under 7 uses. It is certainly not worth the $90.00 cost in my opinion. ... show more
