  • Light gauge. Not 19 awg like most product. Very thin.
This was not really what I was expecting. I was expecting standard 19 gauge galvanized wire with a pvc coating that would be thick. When I opened this it was so flexible I thought it was plastic. It is just a much thinner gauge of wire with a coating that looks like spray paint. It is very thin and glossy. It does not scrape off easily so maybe it is pvc not paint but it basically is the thickness of spray paint. I have been painting my hardware cloth with flat black for years just to allow me to see inside the enclosure without the glare produced by the galvanized finish. When I saw this product I thought one less step. The product page does not list any gauge but 1/2" hardware cloth is typically 19 gauge. Other 19 gauge 1/2"x48"x100' rolls with galvanized with no pvc coating I have purchased in the past weigh about 60 lbs. This roll with a coat of pvc paint weighs about 40 lbs including the box. The product page states 35 lbs. Not sure what gauge it is but I would guess 23? Having said all that, this would be fine for a framed opening that was well supported. You are not going to be able to create a box or any feature that is not supported by a frame. It is just not that strong. It is very flexible and is most likely strong enough to keep animals out or in an enclosure. The black coating does reduce the glare although not as much as flat black would. I have included a picture with the flash on so you can see the glare that is still produced with the gloss black coating. I think the purchase decision on this comes down to: Do you need the strength of 19 gauge wire? Is that thin pvc coating going to last? Based on the weight and amount of metal you are getting, if you can deal with it being a thinner gauge, is it a good deal? It costs almost the same as a 19 gauge roll of galvanized. The manufacturer/seller should list the gauge of this material and the thickness of the pvc coating in mils ... show more

  • Lightweight black vinyl coated hardware cloth
Hardware Cloth 1/2 in 48in x 100ft Hot-Dip Galvanized Chicken Wire Mesh Roll Welded Wire Netting Raised Garden Cloth (48in x 100ft) This vinyl coated hardware cloth is thinner and more flexible than other hardware cloth that I have used. That makes it easier to use. The coating is black vinyl, so it’s a different look from the usual silver color of hardware cloth. ... show more

  • Great for chicken coops!
First, this wire is MUCH lighter weight than I expected. The wire gauge isn't listed in the product description but the overall weight of the product is so I didn't expect a roll of wire that would be rigid enough to form a box, but I was a bit surprised at how lightweight this wire is especially given that it is supposed to be three layers that make up the finished product. I took off a star for the lack of this information. The wire gauge should be listed. For me, I had every intention of using this for a chicken coop and I can easily use this wire for that. The sturdy frame covered with this wire will definitely keep the chickens in and predators out. ... show more

  • Durable wire fence mesh. Not sure I'd call it hardware cloth. Perfect to reinforce screen door.
Color: 48in x 50ft
In my experience, hardware cloth is a much finer mesh than this. But the photos are exactly what you get, which is exactly what I wanted. It's expensive, but I think it's worth it. This pack has a lot more than I needed, but better to have too much than too little. I used this to reinforce the screen on a wood-framed screen door. I have cats that easily rip through the cheap screen that comes in screen doors. I cut this mesh to fit the door. I cut it to leave spikes sticking out all the way around the edges. Then I bent each spike one at a time and tapped those into the wood frame of the screen door with a small hammer. That made the whole edge of the screen almost like nail brads and embedded those sharp edges into the wood. They tapped into the wood easily. Then I went all the way around the whole edge with a heavy duty staple gun, stapling the screen to the wood. This has proven to be the best solution I've ever seen for keeping cats safe with a screen door. It would probably be a good idea for smaller dogs, too. Bending and tapping the spiked edge of the wires into the wood eliminates all of the sharp edges. Then with staples, it has extra reinforcement. I added this as a layer over the original screen. That way, I still have the fine mesh that keeps insects out, but I also have a strong and durable wire mesh that my cats can't tear through or get hurt on. ... show more

  • Will keep the critters out
I have replaced my plastic fencing netting with this. The bunny rabbits were just so brazen, ducking under the plastic right in front of me and snacking on our flowers. The deer were pushing the plastic down and chomping our hydrangeas. Not any more baby! I have 60 inch stakes woven through the 48 inch metal netting which will not give easily at all, top or bottom. So THERE brer bunny and bami. With 100 feet in a roll, I am able to fence in our baby lilac hedge plantation with enough left to protect the hydrangeas. I have no idea why it is called chicken wire. I haven't seen a chicken the whole time I have been using it. ... show more

  • Sturdier than Expected
This hardware cloth is fairly beefy. It is true to the measurements. Perhaps it is the coating, but the 23 gauge wire feels somehow better than 23 gauge. It is heavy duty wire.

  • Love the way it looks
Im sure everyone has seen that hack where you spray paint hardware cloth black and it instantly looks nicer. Well this is so much easier haha. It is a huge roll, true to height and length. Unfortunately it is a pretty small gauge of wire so I dont think it will keep predators out of our chicken coop as intended. We will still use it, maybe for a little brooder box in the run or something? Oh well, it looks nice. ... show more

  • Easy to install
This is a really high-quality chicken wire that is easy to install. The 48-inch width and 100-foot length long and wide enough to give us ample space for our chicken coop. The galvanized wire is hot-dipped and durable but still easy to flex around corners. This sturdy wire is a great value and holds up well to extreme weather as well! ... show more
