This Hamilton Beach mixer is designed to cover the full range of your mixing needs. I have had a model similar to this for the past couple of years that I have been very happy with and expect that this unit will perform in an equal or better manner. The 275 watts of power have been important for my wife in mixing up some of her many batches of cookies and candy at Christmas time. In fact, the last mixer I purchased was as a replacement to a different unit which had worked well up until she used it with a batch of divinity and stripped out the drive gears. The product warranty even covered a replacement of that overdriven unit. I was disappointed that with 6 speeds there wasn’t very much speed difference between 1 and 6. The lowest setting of 1 seemed pretty fast for folding in. There was sufficient power that it didn’t stall down but it was much faster than I would prefer. Having said that, it seems to be consistent with other mixer models, all of which have the #1 speed about 2x the speed that I would prefer to see. Additionally, there didn’t appear to be much difference in speeds between 4-6 on the upper end. So the biggest speed changes were between 1-4, not beyond. Above 4 the power pulse did not seem to boost much either. It was pretty much up to speed by then. That was my sense of the operation, however I did not have a tachometer to validate the speeds, just my audible sense of where they were. We tried out the new solid body plastic paddles today on some cookies and we were pleased with how they performed. I was skeptical on how well they would blend and mix but they did a great job, especially when it came to adding in the chocolate chips. They mixed quite smoothly without bogging down. The storage caddy will be handy for some but I found the latching base unit difficult to access. It locks onto the bottom of the mixer and is pretty solidly attached. For me it was a two handed job to separate the mixer from the caddy. That is good and bad. Good if you are going to take the entire unit out of storage and then use it but unhandy if you aren’t. My wife has a deep drawer where our current mixer resides with it’s caddy. It does not lock onto the mixer, so my wife can simply store the mixer there, then reach in and remove the mixer without disturbing the caddy position at all. I just point this out so others will know that the latching is very secure. A two handed job to separate the mixer from the caddy. When this mixer replaces our current unit I will do a slight modification to the caddy so that it doesn’t lock onto the mixer at all. That will resolve the concern for me. The description bullet points reference that the mixer blades are stainless steel. I expected that to be confirmed somewhere else in the description or the user manual but did not see it referenced. I hope they are stainless because one recent mixer unit that we had was not. Blades were chrome plated steel, which was fine until they began to rust. So for now I am relying on the single bullet point that these are non-rustable stainless steel and are designed for a long and useful life. All-in-all I expect that you will find this a very nice mixer, handy to have in your kitchen and capable of covering any mixing needs that you have there. Finally found a hand maize with a low setting that's actually low and not too fast. But gets gradual with the speed increase. My last mixer was too much and I could never use any setting past 1. This Hamilton Beach hand mixer is my favorite when mixing small box cake batters. It's so convenient and does the job. It's cord is not retractable but thats OK. It doesn't get in the way when the mixer is at rest. The attachments are easy to clean and store in the snap on box for when not in use. ... show more
