I initially bought six GVM 80W lights for my new video studio during their BOGO sale. Three of these lights are dedicated to evenly illuminating my chroma key screen, and they excel at that task. However, for scenes requiring a narrower aperture, I needed more lighting power to avoid increasing the Gain (ISO) and introducing video noise. I decided to try a single GVM 200W video light on sale, and I'm thrilled with the results. In a side-by-side comparison on a neutral gray background, I had to set the GVM 80W light to full, 100% power, while the GVM 200W light only needed to be turned up to 21% to achieve similar brightness. I was so impressed that I just ordered a second GVM 200W light and plan to sell some of my 80W lights. When in doubt, opt for higher wattage. GVM really has stepped up their game. The build quality on this thing is great. The app compatibility works quite well. Fan noise is pretty much non existent. Overall great buy for the price.

When I pulled the light out for the first time everything looked fine, as I began to unloosen the knob it immediately broke with little to no effort being applied. Instead of sending it back for a new one, I'm just going to super glue it, it's definitely a bummer. But I don't want to go through the hassle of a return. Other than that, the light was great. I'm a photographer and hardly use continuous light. But I think it will be a benefit to use 1 continuous light in my set-up as it will also allow my camera to focus easier, with out me having to rely on the modeling lamps on my flashes which overheat quickly. The fan on this was pretty darn quiet. For those curious, light was at 100 percent , camera was at F16 ISO 100 with a 25 inch octabox (1 diffusion sheet) at about 3 feet away and was reading perfect exposure on my subject . ... show more

Each GVM 80W LED is light and bright enough for me to hand hold quick product shots using my cell phone, even when bouncing the light off my ceiling for a softer light. Construction is slightly flimsy plastic, with some metal components such as the locking collar and the reflector. The angle adjustment handle and fittings are all plastic, limiting the amount of weight you’ll be comfortable to putting on the lamp, such as heavy octagonal soft boxes. Light output is even with the reflector off, but casts multiple shadows with the reflector on, as is typical of open face lights with reflectors. Controls consist entirely of a single on-off/dimmer knob with no screen or read out to indicate level. No remote. Power supply is a cheap laptop replacement type. The output cord that attaches from the power supply brick to the lamp is too short to reach from the light to ground when the included light stand is extended to full height, so you’ll have to find a way to affix the power supply brick to your light stand - no attachments are included. Fan is whisper quiet, as in *actually as loud as a whisper*, not silent. Whispers can still be heard and you wouldn’t want two people whispering while you are trying to record audio. I would be reluctant to use these lights at professional shoot where dialogue or interviews were being recorded. The fans are relatively quiet but noticeable and they are always on, no matter what brightness level you set. Your sound person will not be happy. They are quieter than my MacBook when it’s fans are on full, but it’s hard to characterize it more finely than that. These are not miracle lights. They work, are bright enough for my intended use, are a bit flimsy, may not last a long time, are not silent, came with a small bit of damage to the coating on one of the LED emitters which may or may not affect the lifespan and/or color of the light. Not sure if I should return the lights for that defect or not since the next lights might have the exact same issue, and who knows if UPS will destroy the next package I get… ... show more
