I needed an inexpensive tool for wood turning. These work great. Easy to adjust but holds a set dimension well. They are well made and the tips that are key to accurate dimensioning come together precisely and are repeatable. Not for ultra precision work but great for the woodshop. Reasonable cost.

This replaces a vintage set of outside calipers that were finally worn out after at least one lifetime of use before I got them. The Groz outside calipers feel very solid and works easily. First of all, the edges are all rounded -- it feels great in the hand, and no sharp edges. Metal is polished to a medium satin and the tool came covered in a nice coat of oil, so no rust. The adjustment nut knurling is sufficient for grip and not sharp - the screw itself is fine enough to get a snug slip-fit on parts (accuracy), the tension on the spring is firm but not overly tight. And the size is perfect for a shop apron pocket or just to live on the pegboard beside the lathe. I ordered this 4" pocket-sized caliper, based on the positive Amazon reviews. While it's a nice, compact size, and appears to be solidly manufactured, I'm bummed that the 2 points do not quite meet as 1, when closed. Isn't that the point?

To get 3 calipers at this price is a great deal. They aren't the highest quality but they work well. I like this type of caliper because you can drop them over a piece on the lathe while it's still spinning, no need to turn the machine on and off every few seconds. Just turned 18 spindles for some stools, ends needed to fit into 5/8ths hole snuggly. Set these to just a bit over 5/8ths and then used a dial type caliper to fine tune. Dial caliper really can't be used with machine on, don't know if it moves or not. Great item especially considering the price. ... show more

Nicely finished and have quality feel. There are those that complain of being covered in oil, it wipes off easily. Traditionally spring calipers are natural steel, not plated so they'll rust if not treated right. I'm sing these for wood turning so I rounded the tips a bit more.

I was really impressed by the weight and finish of these calipers. It threads so smoothly, and it is very sturdy. It should hold up for a very long time in my shop.

I use these for woodturning and have found they don't hold their measurement very well when I'm trying reduce a blank to the measured diameter. The screw backs off too easily. I have to reset it every few pieces.
