A few cubes arrived damaged but it's not a big deal to me. These were smaller than anticipated

  • and they were the perfect starters for our garden
No gloves in this kit, but ordered the wrong size anyway (cubes). Later, we found a use for them, and they were the perfect starters for our garden. If beginning earlier in the season, or have an indoor seed to cultivate, these cubes allow the perfect amount of water while allowing the roots to breathe. If they werent so expensive, it would be interesting to try as a medium (solely on its own). ... show more

  • Might not be grodan cubes
I want to preface this by saying i planted seeds in these and they grew and look perfectly fine. if it werent for that id give it a three but this is my first time using rockwool and it seems to work fine. As another poster said, there is no evidence that these are "grodan" rockwool cubes. They come in an unmarked clear plastic sleeve, which is open on one side (like you might see used vinyl records in), taped shut by a small piece of tape, so its not a sealed bag, its not air tight. Not saying it should be air tight, just saying this easily could've been made by anyone, theres no evidence that these cubes came from anywhere. theyre unmarked, they came in a clear plastic bag that was taped shut. Perhaps this was because of the length of the sheet. It did come in 2 pieces despite being titled "sheet of 200". I only complain because ive never used rockwool before, and the actual material when i got it was surprisingly not that substantial. Its somewhat small, though i did know the dimensions before i bought it. It's also extremely lightweight and it does not expand much with water really. So i'm just saying, what it actually costs to make this, and to transport it, is not very much at all. So the least i can do is make sure im getting the brand name stuff if im paying $16. Also, the other point is if it were being made by some random dude, he would be making a killing probably. For $16, the actual weight of all the rockwool is no more than a little over half a pound, its 275 grams. meaning each cube weighs a little over a gram. its like the weight of styrofoam. Thats what im trying to get across, for 15 bucks i kind of expected something with a little more meat on its bones. Having said that, again, im new to this and seeds i planted in it are growing. ... show more

  • Nothing like a fresh sheet of rockwool!
The new cubes soak up water easily and do not require ph adjustment. Love it!

  • Received badly damaged
Product received badly damaged. No protection. No air-bags. The sheets of cubes were free to tumble in the box. As a result they tore in multiple places. Tears not on divisions between cubes. Many many cubes unusable. Box was most likely was best size available, but these small 1" cubes require protection to come intact with a full set of usable cubes. No protection was provided. I recommend not ordering 1" cubes from this supplier until they fix their protection issues. My recommendation to supplier: Spend 15 cents on 3 pieces of cardboard: one top and bottom, and one in the middle. 1" cubes are unable to provide their own rigidity. Then spend another 10 cents on a few air pillows. Either that or stop selling 1" cubes. You'll loose way to much money on returns. Uncool. I needed to plant some seeds tonight. If I open this, I cannot return it. I'm not accepting it though. ... show more
