  • Very well made lathe, However...
The legs are very flimsy and to narrow spaced. The lathe motor hangs over the back and makes this top heavy. It flipped on my once so I mounted it on a 2ft wide wooden work bench I made for it. Now it is extremely sturdy and much safer

  • Tailstock and adjustments are annoying
The tailstock isn’t steady enough to drill accurate holes. It also doesn’t have an easy adjustments. You have to adjust with a wrench. It’s more annoying than anything. The other thing is the crate it comes in. You cannot take it out of the crate without destroying it. Also grizzly support is not very supportive. As far as the rest of the lathe I like the power and the copy attachment. ... show more

  • Don’t buy this Grizzly.
On top of all of the other crap parts of this lathe, even its "copy attachment" is crap. Is your spindle more than a couple inches? Throw it in the garbage. But maybe do a template?? Yea, same problem. THIS LATHE IS CRAP. SENDING IT TO THE DUMP!

  • Warehousing damage!!
Lathe delivered with damaged crate, when opened motor housing was badly damaged, frame was cracked by spindle, and damage to motor itself. I'm not sure its even safe to test.

  • Don't Waste Your Money - Junk Lathe and Lousy Grizzly Customer Service
Oh, where to begin. At first blush, this lathe appears sturdy and robust. But I very quickly discovered the machine is poorly designed and flimsily constructed. And I discoverd the hard way that Grizzly's customer service is terrible and not to be trusted. POOR DESIGN: The tail stock mounting and clamping have way too much play, making it nearly impossible to accurately allign the head stock and tail stock centers. It takes a lot of trial and error to find the sweet spot where the centers are alligned so the work piece doesn't wabble and vibrate. In addition, the tail stock clamping requires that you grab a wrench to loosen and tighten the clamp. Apparently there was no thought of a quick clamping design to make operation easier. The tool rest clamping is equally poorly designed. Any turner knows that, during nearly all turning operations, the tool rest is moved and adjusted frequently. But Grizzly never got that memo. The tool rest design also requires the user to grab a wrench to loosen, adjust and retighten the rest. FLIMSY DESIGN: The legs are weak and wobbly. My machine arrived equipped with 5/8" tool rest post. Not too long after my warrantly expired, the tool rest post snapped completely in half. So I called Grizzly Customer Service to inquire whether this had been an issue. I was told it had not been a problem. So I ordered a new tool rest. When it arrived, the tool rest had a 1" post, and wouldn't fit the tool rest base, which was 5/8". I again called Grizzly Customer Service to find out why the difference. This time I was told they had some reported failures of the 5/8" post, so they'd upgraded to 1" in early November of 2020 - less than 2 weeks after my machine was shipped. I told Customer Service that - because of the change and the fact that I'd been lied to when I inquired about the difference in the post size - I felt they should replace my 5/8" tool rest base with a 1" base. I was told, in effect, "no way, tough luck." Now that's lousy customer service. And finally, I tried to write this review on the Grizzly web site. However, as soon as I rated the machine at 1 star, their review system blocked me from entering any sort of review on the Grizzly web site. So much for wanting prospective Grizzly customers to get both sides of the story. Do youself and your wallet a favor. Avoid Grizzly products ! ... show more
