Its a soft, buttery paint that handles nicely out of the tube without needing to add any medium. The binder is safflower oil as opposed to the usual linseed oil, which should make the paint slower drying and resistant to yellowing. Although the tube was labeled titanium white, the small print shows that it also contains pigment PW4, which is zinc white. Zinc white is supposedly prone to cracking and not recommended for oil paint, though it’s probably OK when mixed with titanium white as is the case here. Titanium white is a cheap pigment and can be found affordably from all the major brands, for about the same price as this titanium/zinc white mix. So I’m not sure why you wouldn’t want to go with a more established brand where you can find lots of reviews and tests online using the paint. Anyway, it seemed fine, other than the tube label not matching the actual pigments used. I’ll use up this tube, but I see no reason to seek out this brand over others. ... show more

I have now had the opportunity to use the “Great White” brand of white oil paint a few times. My experience with oil paint in general is from my being a professional painter years back before going off into different professions, and then circling right back again to full time artist once more. I have had the experience of trying many different brands of oil paint, both in the past, and currently. Most of the time, I had used top brands. Right now, other than the Great White “white”;my palette consists of tubes from: Gamblin, Daler Rowney, Williamsburg, and Faber Castell. On the 5 oz/ 150 ml tube of this white paint, the pigments are listed as : PW 6, Titanium white, and PW 4 Proprietary blend in a safflower oil vehicle. The advertisement lists this as the first to be mulled by computer operated machinery. The experience of incorporating this paint into my palette has provided only good and pleasant results. As advertised, this is an opaque white. What is not listed is just how sensuously creamy this is to work with. While my higher end paints tend more toward the drier side with an intense pigment load, this white adds the element of smoothness to help blend the colors and take away some of that drag that the drier pigmented paints punish my brushes with when no other medium is applied. The effect of this white mixed with my other colors only accentuates their beauty on the canvas. So far, I have one fully dried painting, and I’m currently working on another in which I’ve utilized this white, both of which I’ll post. I think that especially for a heavy bodied paint, this one is very beautiful and versatile. I don't use oil paints every day or on extremely large canvases, so for my use only white would be practical in a tube this large. But that said, it is great to have a big tube of white because it gets used so much. Great White has a fantastic texture. It's thick and buttery and glides. Nice opacity. It does have a bit of an odor but less obnoxious than some oil paints. This tube is a great value and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. ... show more

Once more, I had to defer to my professional artist friend to fill me in on the ins and outs of different brands since I am very new to painting. She was about as giddy as a child when I told her I had gotten this tube. Not only will this work great for wet on wet technique, the archival quality is, according to her, “the best.” I know a lot of products out there yellow with age. I didn’t know there were products out there that don’t. Now, I can paint snowcapped mountaintops and not worry about them looking like a giant dog park. I don’t eat yellow snow, and I don’t want to paint it, either! Bottom line: The artist friend has worked often with this brand and calls it a favorite, so this one is getting highly recommended. ... show more

I got this for use in my home studio. I had never used anything from this brand before. It is slightly thicker than “thick” oil paints from more established brands. This is not necessarily a problem, just something to be aware of. The color is a very nice bright white that covers as well as other brands do. Standard oil painting brushes work well for this paint. It mixes the same as other thick white oil paints do, resulting in the same colors with the same amount of paint. In an RBG system of color mixing using weighed amounts, this paint produces the same color with the same amount of paint as other brands. It works well on canvas, paper, wood, and metal. It dries in at about the same time as other oil paint brands. The product description is accurate. It arrived in less than one week (for many art supplies, this is good time) and with no problems. I will definitely get this again and look for other products from this company. ... show more

This white opaque oil color tube is a decent size which is good considering how often white is used to lighten other colors (change the tint). FYI, a shade is when you add black color to other colors to make it darker and a tone is when grey is added to make a color duller. This white oil paint says it is a heavy body and I did notice that it was a little thicker than some I have used in the past, but I had no trouble in using it. I think I may actually prefer it that way. I have not noticed any wrinkling of the oil paint as it dried. As for the claim of non-yellowing, that is hard to test except with the test of time.
