UPDATE : These coins, while of superior quality to the other type, have one drawback. If you try to bend them, they will snap in half with sharp edges down the middle. The cheap ones will just bend. Thus they shouldn't be given to very small children. This isn't something "wrong" with them, they're just made of a different type of plastic. I normally use the much cheaper oriental trading company version of these coins when performing as a pirate. These may be more than twice the cost, but the shine and consistent quality makes a huge difference. These don't have any jagged edges from the molding process, are consistently shiny, and if I'm performing at an event that will cover my toy distribution costs I get these instead of the cheap ones. ... show more

I bought these as party favors for my son's Pirate themed Birthday Party, and I was pleasantly surprised at the great quality of these little coins. The images embossed on the plastic are detailed. Simple plastic gold coins I used in my kids sensory/busy bins. They love digging for gold and I feel safe with these large items in the hands of my little ones. Would use these in party bags, dress-up play, etc. Lightweight and perfect for the kids.

Well, yo-ho-ho, if you only need a few pirate coins, this is the set for you! The coins are a bit heartier than other plastic coins, and that's a definite plus. I do caution you, however, that 30 coins does NOT look like many coins when put into even the smallest of pirate chests. If you're looking for quality, this IS the set for you. The coins are cheap, thin plastic. Ok, but not 1” diameter. Coins measured 1 3/8”. Each coin has a plastic nub on the edge, which can easily scratch you. Got for a game, and because will be used by adults, will be okay, but don’t buy if you’re planning to involve kids.

My twenty-two month old loves these gold coins! I wanted something extra to put in her rainbow rice (sensory) bin and couldn't find any plastic gold coins that I liked locally (they were all either too small, flimsy, or obscenely expensive) and came across these on Amazon. They are a little heavier than the super light plastic ones I've seen elsewhere and the design is simple. As fas as size goes they are around the size of a fifty cent piece (larger than a quarter). I plan to add some to her sandbox for a fun surprise. If you don't need many coins or just want ones that feel a bit more sturdy I highly recommend ordering these. ... show more
