Description

Rich Benoit went from buying a left-for-dead Tesla to becoming a successful YouTube entrepreneur and launching The Electrified Garage, the nation’s first successful EV-only business devoted to repairing Teslas and other electric vehicles. Today he is the world’s most popular DIY expert and car aficionado, and now he shares his story and expertise. People are fascinated by Tesla: the cars, the stock price, and especially its headline-grabbing CEO. Rich Benoit was the first YouTuber to pull back the curtain on the cultlike business model that is the Tesla company, and he’s personally battled its consumer-unfriendly business practices. In Going Fast and Fixing Things, Rich provides readers with behind-the-scenes access not only to his Rich Rebuilds YouTube channel but to his off-camera life as well. Throughout his life, Rich has almost always been the proverbial “only Black guy in the room,” but despite the fact that online car culture—especially electric vehicle fandom—skews overwhelmingly white, he has become the most popular car rebuilding guy on the internet. His voice on the page is funny and intimate and a little goofy—just like his video persona—but always tempered by a clear determination to create success for himself as well as for his fans. Going Fast and Fixing Things also includes tips to help readers fix, drive, and buy their own cars, along with advice on how to defy the disposable-is-better consumerist ethos that saturates our current culture. • A great book for anyone who’s a fan, or anyone who knows a fan and wants to understand why.
As a Rich Rebuilds fan, I was pleased to find this book as insightful and funny as his videos and interviews. He also shares a great origin story, you don’t have to be a car nut to enjoy and learn from. I recommend this book for anyone who’s a fan, or anyone who knows a fan and wants to understand why. ... show more

  • Good stuff. And not just for car nuts!
At first glance I know what you are going to think….oh look, another “I made it” book from a youtuber / car guru who is just looking to totally cash in. And while there is definitely some of that going on here….there is also a ton of solid heart-felt and brutally honest tales from the Rich zone that make this one well worth the read. And if you look close enough, you might just find some life lessons we all need to learn on how to be less afraid to fail, more open to opportunities, and how to handle things when it all goes sideways. Personally, I was surprised how much Rich put himself out there with this book, but I think if you follow his channel on YouTube it makes all the sense in the world. Total must-read for anyone who’s a fan but also a solid read for those who value keeping it real. ... show more

  • Smart and funny!
The media could not be loaded. This is a great read. You don’t see his normal arrogance from the outside, you get to see it from his perspective. After I read the book I realized he is not arrogant. We are all just jealous.

  • Rich is a pretty good writer.
I've been here since Rich started his channel, if you're a fan of his YouTube channel- this is a *must-read*. If you have *no* idea who the heck Rich is.....buy the book anyways. It's a good read on how to start with nothing but hard work and some smarts and end up with a career that didn't exist 10 years ago. I think Rich will appreciate what I'm about to say......he ain't gonna win a Pulitzer Prize or any prestigious book awards, but he writes from the heart and you can tell when you read the book. I think he has more books in him :-) ... show more

  • Powerful
Rich shares an important and personal perspective on many challenges that a young man faces. Upbringing, daily struggles, the challenge to do more, and all while raising a family. Between his humor and relatable content to many individuals, you'll be wishing there was a second book. Thank you Rich!

  • Some good life lessons...
Would recommend a listen over a read, just due to the voices helping add to the story. I do wish Leenda (spelled wrong?) would have voiced her own part. It does help put a story behind Rich, but did find myself watching his channel significantly less after the book. It was the backstory to his life that fills in the blanks and makes him more of a human rather than this guy with a chip on his shoulder, sense of comedic talent, and overwhelming presence. Needless to say, this is a book I wanted to read, and when done wanted to forget the book and keep the mystery. A couple of things, Rich needs a boat. And not just a speed boat, but a sailboat purchased from a drunk guy that has had it on the hard for 10 years. Take that boat and apply his magic and style, make it electric/hybrid. Show us that it isn't just about thinking outside the box, but that the box never existed. Give us the same magic of a diesel Tesla. Then get a parrot, davey jones flag, and show the World that Trinidad's greatest pirate drives a ZR1 when he is visiting the Olive Garden. I believe this book is a good read, but also believe that it would be an injustice to only commit to paper (audio) what is a journey of where he has been. Rich needs to be working on another book. He needs to help build the narrative and story. This book should be a start... ... show more

  • Unique, funny, informative, and intriguing.
Rich is a unique man, and he manages to give us a detailed and humorous glimpse into his unique life. Well written and hard to put down, this book focuses more on life lessons and motivation than it does on YouTube, and that's a good thing. Highly recommended.
