I am no expert when it comes to gold or jewelry, and I have not worn a necklace since high school (which feels like a lifetime ago). But something about this piece caught my attention. It is simple, classic, and understated with just the right amount of style without being too flashy. I was not sure what to expect, but after receiving it, I am really glad I went for it. The packaging is a nice touch. It comes in a branded GLD box, and inside, the chain is neatly placed in a small bag along with a pouch and a sticker. If I were giving this as a gift, I would have no complaints about the presentation. The chain itself is stunning. It has that rich, warm glow that only real gold offers, and it feels surprisingly hefty for its size. The weight alone reassures you that this is a high-quality piece.     • Packaging problem undermined perception of quality
This 4 mm gold plated stainless rope chain by GLD is designed to impress. It has a semi-chunky style and an impressive amount of weight. The necklace has a smaller lobster claw clasp with a classy-looking "G" logo on it. The chain is designed in such a way that you could add a pendant if it had a big enough bail. The end cap is only slightly larger than the 4mm width of the chain. The rope chain has a nice sparkle to it and seems very well made for costume jewelry. GLD is a "bling" jewelry manufacturer, and as such, they have very flamboyant packaging for their products. The rope necklace came packed in a black magnetic closure box with the GLD logo printed large in gold on the cover. Inside, the necklace comes in a super-cool zippered pleather bag with the GLD logo embossed in gold, and a custom GLD branded zipper pull. This little bag is over-the-top impressive, so much nicer than the ubiquitous gray velvet drawstring bag. The necklace is in a plastic bag inside. There is also a small black envelope printed with the GLD logo and sealed with a gold sticker which looks to have a pickaxe embossed on it, although I could be wrong about the symbol. Inside this envelope is a credit-card style business card printed with the GLD logo on one side, and GLD's very generous lifetime guarantee policy on the other. Some boxes may or may not include a round GLD sticker with a skull logo, talking about some Instagram contest (not a big fan of this sticker, it lowers the tone of the whole package imho). Overall, though, an impressive, unique package suitable for a fairly expensive piece of costume jewelry. Anyway, I noticed a few things about the packaging on my rope chain. Since the necklace is fairly heavy, the box has to be sealed with some sort of tape so that the box doesn't pop open during shipping. GLD went with a large round clear sticker in order to not clash with the black box, which is an okay choice, but I probably would have gone ahead and clashed with a gold sticker to match the gold logo on the box. Maybe there is a reason they didn't do this other than aesthetics, idk. Still, no big deal. But then, I noticed some disturbing things on the bottom of the box. There were a few white inventory control stickers that had been peeled off, and new stickers pasted over the top of the old. The new stickers didn't completely cover the old stickers, so I could see both. Then, near the center of the bottom of the box, there was a dent that tore the black finish of the box, which was repaired with a piece of scotch tape. The damage covers at least a third of the bottom of the box, and the tape looks pretty bad. Inside the box, the little envelope with the credit-card/guarantee had the gold seal torn and the little envelope was open. So, now I'm wondering, did I get a return? Is the guarantee on this item already used up by the previous owner? Or is it only the packaging that's recycled? Illusion of quality = shattered. I know that to some people, quibbling about the packaging seems stupid, BUT...This is a piece of luxury costume jewelry that costs about $100. That's a lot of money for costume jewelry, and the packaging is an important sales technique that helps convince the buyer that the product they bought is worth as much (or more) than they paid for it. A packaging failure like this is a HUGE faux pas for this kind of item. There's nothing at all wrong with the chain, but the mere packaging makes one question its value based on its presentation. Even now, I'm not sure if this chain is new or used, whereas, if the packaging had been perfect, this question never would have crossed my mind. Fail. ... show more

    • Nice Gold Plated Necklace
I will start this review by stating that this is absolutely not 100% 18K gold. It is gold plated which isn't explicitly stated in the title; however, the price should be a dead giveaway. Overall, it is a nice and sturdy gold plated necklace which might be a bit pricey for what you get. It does appear to be well crafted and the 20 inch rope necklace fits nicely around the collar bone area and appears more expensive then it actually is. This is an excellent choice for people who can't afford real gold or don't want to wear real gold to places where it could get stolen. Make sure you don't have skin allergies since it isn't clear if this is hypoallergenic. ... show more

I ordered this for my wife, and we were not disappointed. So much jewelry comes with chains that feel like they would fall apart in a stiff breeze, and this one is solid. I ordered this 18k yellow gold rope chain for myself. Before this I really didn't have any gold chains. I wasn't sure what to expect as I had never heard of this company, but I decided to pick this necklace up as see what I thought. Well, I am happy to tell you that I absolutely love this necklace. To start, this necklace arrived quickly and exactly as described/pictured. I have worn this necklace 24/7 since I received it. I have slept with it on, taken showers with it on, and even workout with it on. There has been no darkening or change in color either on the necklace itself or my neck. It looks great, feels great, and I have absolutely no complaints. The necklace even comes with a card that states this exactly: "This card certifies our jewelry complies with the jewelry vigilance committee standards." "This card guarantees your jewelry purchase for life and entitles you to a one-time replacement or repair for the identical item or an item of equal value should we no longer carry the guaranteed piece."
