Description

General Finishes water based stains have all the advantages of oil base stains: they spread easily, can be repaired, can be Blended effortlessly, and have plenty of open time. The thicker formula allows controlled penetration, which will reduce blotching on softer goods such as aspen, pine and maple.

It is water based, easy clean up. But in photo it appears to have a little mild red tint to it … it has no red woody tiny at all, but i still have liked the results. I would not recommend using this color on oak, for Example the oak pressed back chairs. It really takes up strong in the cracks and creavases of that wood and hardly at all in tbe harder wood . I really had to work witb it wiping away several times and reapplying. ( i am one of those people that dont like a real heavy “ painted”stain, i like to see some natural wood grain show through. ) worked great on maple and cherry wood. Maybe it was my technique on the oak🤷🏻♀️, who knows just my thoughts and experience using it. Good luck happy staining and creating ... show more

This is my 3rd product to attempt to stain some oak trim. First crack was gel stain, then a water-based dye, then this, water based wood stain. The gel stain was uneven, the dye weak, this stuff? Spectacular. I did a side-by-side test and this shone immediately. Goes on quickly a quick wipe and it was brilliantly easy to apply a nice even-colored coat. Blew me away. I did short, 24" sections before wiping and found it was easy to blend. Love this stuff. ... show more

General Finishes products are outstanding. I am an amateur furniture builder and now use General Finishes products exclusively. Attached are pictures of an armoire and vanity made of white oak, stained using Graystone water-based stain. (Before staining, I dry-brushed General Finishes white oil-based stain on the high points, to create a distressed appearance.) Clear coat is General Finishes water-based High Performance, flat. The stain is water-based, so you need to work a bit more quickly than with an oil-based product. No volatile order, and cleanup is a snap. ... show more
