I absolutely love this GearTop hat. I purchased it because my doctor told me to wear sunscreen protection and specifically to wear a wide brimmed hat. I have tons of regular trucker style/baseball style hats, but needed a wide brim. This hat looks great. The color is perfect - not too light so it won’t get dirty and not too dark so it won’t absorb heat. The fit of the hat is also perfect for my large sized head (just as the fitment chart said). It is very lightweight so you’ll barely notice it on your head - no real extra weight whatsoever. The drawstring serves as both an adjustment for sizing as well as a way to lock the drawstring under your chin to keep it even more in place for those really windy days. So far I haven’t needed to lock in place as the hat fits so well. The thing that really sold me on this hat is the ventilation system. I hate hats that make your hotter and don’t ventilate well. This has ventilates amazingly because the circumference area on the upper part of the hat has a mesh that allows for airflow in and heat out. Everyone also thinks that I look pretty good in this hat as I get many compliments so far. The UVF of 50+ in the fabric is also perfect as many of the sun’s rays can get through most clothing. I truly cannot think of a better quality made hat that stays attractive. This hat ticks all the boxes for the perfect hat. Bought this hat for our trip to Australia and it was fantastic. It isn’t as “cute” as my straw sun hat, but it is functional and I like the protection of the wide brim. It packed well, but does have a substantial crease to the brim from being folded. This didn’t bother me or the function of the hat - I just embraced the fold🤷♀️ It rained one of the days, and the hat held up well. It shielded me from the rain and dried off quickly. This hat is attractive and seems well-made. The brim is wide enough to provide good sun protection. It also wards off rain pretty well, though I can feel some drops coming through the mesh. But people with larger heads should be cautious: I comfortably wear a 59 cm (23 1/4") hat, and this one is slightly snug. (Not a bad thing, as a gust of wind deposited my last hat of this sort in the St. Lawrence river). Those with larger hat sizes should probably choose a different model. ... show more

This hat might be described as a fishing hat, but I don't go fishing. I do go out in the rain though, which is why I bought the hat. This rain hat fits well (I apparently have a big head which causes some hats to not properly hug my head) and the brim is nice and wide, which is important (it keeps the rain water from being dumped down the inside of my collar -- the wide brim insures that the rain goes down the back of my rain coat and that I stay dry). The under chin tie helps on those windy rainy days insuring that the hat stays on. I would imagine that when spring and summer come, the hat will be equally useful for keep the sun off my face. it was much to big for me almost hard to see. it will definitely cover well if your just sitting by water but if ur walking around it feels to big. it bent in half when shipped and stays bent in half on your head. it didn't look very flattering on my head.
