  • Blows Samsung and Apple Out of the Water
Size: 47 mm Style: Pro Standard Color: Slate Gray with Black Band
I've been using the EPIX Pro 2 for about 6 months now and is my daily watch. I've used apple watches and Samsung Galaxy watches in the past. I was looking for something that had better navigation features over Samsung so I went with this bad boy. I am so glad I did. This watch is superior to every other smartwatch out there. The functionality is supreme. This does everything. When it comes to fitness tracking, especially in remote areas where there are no cell phone towers, it remains dead accurate. My Samsung Galaxy watch did not track very accurately in remote areas, and in fact, I wouldn't even bring it with me. I did the Camino de Santiago in Spain with this watch, and even when I was in the middle of NOWHERE, in another country, this watch was spot on. It does not track gym workouts like weightlifting very well, but none of the other smartwatches did either. Even so, it allows you to manually input data for more accurate tracking. Battery life is incredible. I can't believe that this watch has twice the amount of features as Samsung watches and the battery lasts twice as long. I could get maybe get a day and a half with my Samsung Galaxy watch 3 with AOD. With the Epix, I get at least 3 and that's with AOD and heavy fitness tracking. The display with AMOLED is crisp and I have no issues with it in direct sunlight. The stock watch faces are nothing special and don't have a ton of customization but the indie developers produce some amazing watches where you can find and customize anything to your liking. The flashlight on this watch is such a good idea! I use it all the time. When I first saw the feature, I thought it was kind of tacky, but it comes in handy everyday. Especially with the red setting if you are in a situation where you don't want to blind other people. It's great for evening/morning runs as well. This watch is definitely pricey. But for what you get, it was worth it for me. I use all of its features though especially for backwoods adventures. If you are looking for a daily city life watch and do not need accurate navigation, fitness tracking, and have the ability to charge every night, then maybe go with a less expensive model. The supporting apps are pretty well developed. I dislike how there are three different apps I had to install on my phone; the "master," watch app, the IQ Connect store, and the Garmin Explore app for navigation. I wish it was all rolled into one app, but then again I guess that it would be a pretty complicated app of that was the case. The main "Master," app is pretty intuitive and allows you to really dig into your health data if you so choose. The social connection part of the app is fun too and competing with other friends to earn badges is pretty great. I do wish it had the option to sync with Facebook friends though, since not many people have specifically created a Garmin fitness account, your options for finding other Garmin friends are pretty limited. As far the aesthetics go, the watch itself isn't the most gorgeous looking. Maybe the Sapphire version is, but the non-Sapphire watch is nothing special. Then again, maybe that's a good thing to not show off a $900 watch. The bezel is steel but the sidewalls are plastic. The Epix pro 2, doesn't have the red start/stop button which I thought looked kinda cool on the older models. So overall, pretty plain. The band is nice; it doesn't feel super cheap, but nor does it feel super premium. At least the watch isn't derpy looking like the apple watch and would look pretty good with a suit if you swapped out the band. I have big bony wrists, and the 47mm version looks and feels perfect on my wrist. I probably could've opted for the larger 51mm just fine but I wasn't able to try one on to compare, so I played it safe. Garmin is great at keeping older devices functional so I feel like this watch is a safe bet for continuing to use for years to come, even when newer devices become available. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase and although expensive, you will totally understand why once you start using it. As my title suggests, it's just the most superior smartwatch currently on the market. I highly recommend it. ... show more

  • No Google Fit Integration and Thicker than Expected
Size: 47 mm Style: Pro Standard Color: Slate Gray with Black Band
Garmin Connect and the Epix Pro Standard 47MM watch has no native integration to Google Fit. It looks like you can get some data into Fit by going through Strava or MyfitnessPal, but the lack of a direct connection is baffling to me. Not sure if Garmin is prioritizing Apple development over Google or if Google is blocking development to try to sell more WearOS devices, but it's a pretty basic level of integration that is just missing. The watch was also significantly thicker than I was expecting. I was paying attention to screen size, but was not thinking about thickness. Finally it came with a USB C charging cable, but no type A adapters which is what all of my power plugs are expecting. Nice they're looking to the future, but pretty cheap to leave that out for such an expensive device. Taken in total, I don't think this watch is a good fit for me so I'll be returning it. ... show more
