  • IMPRESSIVE * GREAT FOR ENTRY-MID LEVEL GAMING AND VLOG CREATION - EDITING
Style: T40 23.6’ 0.5ms 180Hz
It’s difficult to review high tech items listed for gaming use as the word “gaming” has a wide level of expectations. I will be upfront in saying that this unit is fine for casual gamers with human sized Built-in GPU units, you will be VERY pleased with the feature sets and level of performance delivered at the cost. HOWEVER, If you have an aftermarket GPU installed that has more horsepower than an NASA Mars orbiter, don’t expect this entry level gaming monitor to perform as your main action viewing device. It works great as a side view for aux supplementary game data on high end systems, but be realistic in the theory that get what you pay for. That said this unit does deliver many high end features and packs a punch in performance for gaming, or non gamers that want an enhanced video streaming experience for movie enjoyment, or better vlog creation and editing. PROs: - Curved screen, although becoming more standard these days a curved screen does provide a more immersive experience, and as mentioned would work great as a wrap around side auxiliary game data display for serious gamers or a space saving primary monitor for non gamers and media creators. - Refresh rate and high end sync features do work and provide a performance punch. If you’re NOT a gamer ensure your pc or laptop can support these features, because many older built-in GPU units cannot. It doesn’t mean the monitor won’t work, but you may not get the full benefit as promised. Even if your pc does have the capability for these features, you may need to activate them in BIOS or in the config setup program for your video/GPU card; do a bit of homework first and/or enlist the use of a computer geek if needed to maximize these extra features which are worth the effort to enjoy. - Not a single dead pixel, used to be common with lower priced monitors; the screen manufacturing processes have really improved in the past few years. CONS: - As I described in detail, gamers need to be realistic, don’t expect to go cheap and expect this monitor to proverbially drive the graphics ship in lockstep with a NASA grade GPU. It does perform superior to much more expensive monitors and the sync features are functional when properly integrated in a multi monitor configuration. - The screen edging is very plain Jane like most budget level monitors. Don’t expect to bang this against the wall or try to hang accessories, it does have a VESA mount for VESA tree mounts or attaching VESA verified accessories, but the screen edges are not bezel protected except for a wafer this plastic edge. I highly recommend this unit at five stars for entry level to moderate gamers that want affordable higher end performance. I also recommend the unit for non gamers that want a much more rich and immersive graphic experience and vlog creators, but as mentioned do a bit of homework or enlist a geek helper to ensure it’s compatible and configurable to take advantage of the extra features. • Mid-range gaming monitor
Style: T50 27’ 0.5ms 180Hz
This curved gaming monitor delivers the vast majority of the specs that a gamer would want, with some (minor?) notable exceptions. First, the good: * It supports 180hz and wicked low latency, * It supports HDR, * It supports both HDMI and DisplayPort for input, * It has optional standard VESA 100x100mm mounting holes, * At its current price of $130, it doesn't cost an arm and a leg, * It also comes packaged with some amusing nitnoids, like a themed keycap fidget keychain -- with a no-kidding-REAL keyboard cap -- and puffy stickers. (The brand is clearly trying to situate itself as the next major name in gaming hardware.) Several of those are pretty important features, especially for that very picky category of "hardcore gamers." The other side of the coin is that this product is so laser focused on gamers, that it skips out on certain quality-of-life features: * It only supports up to a 1080p resolution. This is often a good target resolution when you're trying to max out framerates in high-speed video games, but when you pair that resolution up with this 27" form factor, you're going to start to notice individual pixels pretty quickly -- especially when you're doing anything but gaming, or even gaming without anti-aliasing enabled. (This is common when a gamer is trying to increase framerates on a less capable video card.) 1080p is more suited to smaller displays, like my 15-inch gaming laptop display; it would be ideal to support at least 1440p on a 27" display, especially since modern gaming graphics cards are well capable of supporting high frame rates at that resolution in video games. * It only comes with a very basic monitor stand, with no height adjustment capability and little in the way of "bounce" stabilization; even very minor accidental bumps to the table will cause the monitor to bob wildly for a moment, while my laptop display remains comparatively still. Of course, this issue can be entirely eliminated by mounting the monitor on a good VESA wall arm. * It seems to have issues with mostly solid white windows when using HDR. This is perhaps to be expected, since HDR is really intended for video games and/or consuming media, not really for web browsers or word processors, but the behavior is a bit off-putting; it promptly dims the entire screen when you pull up such a window. There also doesn't appear to be an "auto-HDR" mode, which could potentially alleviate such issues; HDR must be toggled manually from the menu of the display. * Related to that, the overall brightness is a bit below what I'm used to -- but for gamers who typically play in darkened rooms, that certainly won't be an issue. * The internal speakers are tinny and lackluster and the monitor's volume controls are somewhat buried in the menu system -- but again, gamers typically use headphones, so this probably won't be much of an issue. Overall, I'd say the "misses" for this monitor can arguably be chalked up to narrowly targeted marketing. If you're specifically looking for a budget minded gaming monitor in this form factor, you probably won't be disappointed by this product. ... show more
