Description

Gamblin 1980 Oil Colors are made with the same pure pigments that go into Gamblin's Artist Oils. In addition, they use the same process of mixing, milling, filling and hand labeling. 1980 colors are formulated with pure pigments, the finest refined linseed oil and marble dust (calcium carbonate). More affordable colors have been made with these three ingredients since oil painting began. With 1980 colors, artists experience colors that are true, without homogenized texture or muddy color mixtures. Gamblin's approach of using both traditional raw materials and processes ensures luscious working properties.

  • Buying oil paints
Needed cerulean blue for a new painting I started. Much quicker to purchase on Amazon than to find time to go to the store. Used the paint right away with much success. Lower price too!

  • Weak and waxy
I've been a Gamblin fan for a long time. I use a lot of the grays and radiants, because they aren't available from other brands. This is my first experience with the "1980" line, and I'm hugely disappointed. I ordered Cerulean blue, which appears to be a hue, although it doesn't say that on the front of label. The paint looks great right out of the tube, and it has a nice viscosity. But the texture is "waxy" and my attempts to tint or add medium to it resulted in a horribly weak color strength. It was so see-through, even a thick layer wasn't providing more than a streaky coverage. I'll stick to buying anything other than the grays and radiants from other manufacturers. ... show more
