I bought the largest size for shade and UV protection while walking my dog in the afternoon heat. I'm able to cover my whole body, including my feet (most of the time). It's lighter than I expected. It seems very sturdy. I think the main rod is made of fiberglass. When it's windy it can be difficult to keep control of, but it's only inverted a couple of times when the gusts were really strong. This umbrella is sturdy and provides great sun coverage. I opened it and was not able to see any light seep through. My only dislike is that it has a strong zoo like smell. I had to return it because the smell made me nauseous.
