I also have a Black diamond avy shovel and it has way better ergonomics. This is cheap. This shovel handle doesn't slide very smoothly, the push button locks are hard to actuate, the overall fit and finish is just ok. Note the warped aluminum from cheap manufacturing. I could probably cut myself on the shovel edges if it tried. When deploying the shovel you have to really shove the buttons in deep - not sure if it can be done with gloves. The friction pulling the handle out is gritty and hard. It's ok enough for the car. However if it were me in a life and death avy rescue Id want something with a handle was a faster and easier to deploy. Way better than nothing. ... show more

This is actually an amazing shovel to have a new car for emergency. It is pretty short. It's pretty light and I would say on a scale from one to 10 as far as rigidity, I would give it a 6 to 7. Again, it's a budget shovel but I think it's a good deal for what it is. It's nothing you would use on a daily basis. But for emergencies and the occasional snow it is perfect for that. ... show more
