It's not as good as Mad Max Fury Road, but nothing ever will be. It is good enough to watch for a rental price or buy now while on sale for $13. I watched all the Mad Max movies in the theater when new, so I do I know and appreciate the storylines. Furiosa fits right into the storyline as a prequel to Fury Road. Anya Tayor Joy is good in everything she does. I have been in love with Elsa Patasky since she was born, which is probably illegal. Chris did a good job playing an absolute creep, even though he's a cool dude in real life. Nick Hoult has yet to play a bad role in a bad movie. Nathan Jones is a shaved Sasquatch and is proof Cromags can act as well as intimidate. He actually seems younger in Furiosa than he did in Fury Road, which is impressive. Furiosa is proof Hollywood is a den of thieves and shady characters who punish those who do not tow the party line. How this film tanked at the box office makes no sense, unless you know that Hollywood is ruled by underhanded backstabbers who send in "critics" to ruin a film's success if you piss them off; just like the mob sends in hit men to take out undesireables in the synicate. Like John Carter, where somebody pissed off a Hollywood executive who sent in the "critics" to ruin a perfectly good movie, someone on the set of Furyosa also pissed someone off and the "critics" came in and destroyed it. I could write a whole book about how Hollywood makes or breaks a movie's success with "critics". There is nothing wrong with Furiosa and it should have done better at the box office. To be fair, it's not exactly like the previous Mad Max movies. But many of them aren't like the original, either. I guess evolution is expected. That being said, this felt more like a young person's action movie. The plot and writing was definitely aimed towards a teenager, or younger adult. Life on a desolate wasteland is tough, yet somehow these people manage to scavenge parts to fix up old cars, and somehow manage to feed a few fairly sizeable communities with what appears to be a very small "farm". If this matters to you, don't watch. In my case, I am fine with overlooking the many technical flaws, and just enjoyed the dystopian fiction for what it was meant to be; a thrilling action movie. If you want anything deeper, I recommend writing to Miller and see what he says. ... show more

    • Great World Building entry to the Mad Max franchise...
...with more pertinent action sequences than the non-stop chase sequence in Fury Road. OK, let's get one thing straight right out of the door here. I'm a child of the 70s and 80s so the nuclear Post Apocalyptic genre has been in my zeitgeist for most of my life. I was first introduced to it with Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome in 1985, followed by seeing Road Warrior a little later on. And then several B-movies that piggyback off the Mad Max craze such as Patrick Swayzee's "Steel Dawn" and a few others. The one thing that always seemed to lack in these films is the World Building in favor of action sequences. In 2015 we got a new entry in the Mad Max world with Fury Road. Which revitalized the franchise to a new degree to where it helped bring attention to the Wasteland Weekend gathering out in California (similar to Burning Man in a way). But like I said Fury Road thrusted us into a "new" tangent of the Mad Max world without really explaining where we are or what's going on. We just barely learned about the Citadel (Immorten Joe's place), the Green Place (Furiosa's former home) and then just in mention Bullet Farm (where ammunition is made) and Gas Town (where gasoline is made). We don't really get an idea what significance these places are other than what their obvious namesake suggests. But in Furiosa here, we finally get all the backstory and world building that was missing from Fury Road. We go to Gas Town (which turns out to be a huge Refinery turned into a Fortress of somesort...think the Gas settlement in Road Warrior times 100.) I think this is where The People Eater is from. And we also go to Bullet Farm which is a concentric circle pit mine where they must mine the lead and/or brass for the ammunition they make. Aside from these locations, we see a lot of returning characters from Fury Road and we get to see some of their backstory. Which makes their roles in Fury Road that much more interesting now. Oh, I should d add here that the script or at least the story outline for Furiosa was written BEFORE Fury Road was made. Because George Miller kinda had to come up with the backstory this new chapter in his Mad Max saga before he made Fury Road. After seeing Furiosa, I kinda wished he would have made this movie first before Fury Road, but I can understand why he didn't because marketing a Mad Max movie to global audiences without Max in it wouldn't have worked. Which is why Furiosa didn't do too well at the Box Office. But forget about that, I have a feeling that it will gain a cult following now that it's available on home media. In fact, you could almost look at both of these films are one long 4½ hour movie, as Furiosa is split into 4 or 5 Chapters, each with a bit of a time jump, and so you could go from where we ended this film right into Fury Road as just another time jump and new chapter just entitled "Fury Road". Now then, how's the 4K Blu-ray? Gotta go with a 5/5. Reference Quality PQ and AQ. I haven't seen a cheaner or sharper 4K presentation yet. Looks almost too clean if you know what I mean. In comparison, Fury Road has a higher grain structure in its presentation. Furiosa looks very digital if you know what I mean. But they actually filmed some of it at the exact place in Australia they filmed parts of Road Warrior. ... show more

Clever - now we know how Fury Road started. The entire movie was fast moving, touched on much of Fury Road (I suggest watching Furiosa first then Fury Road) and had a great cast. Good to see many of the shady characters from Fury Road. For us it was worth the purchase.

    • WOW what a surprise!
First off this movie was great and the acting was top notch. The director sped up some of the scenes and it started to give me a little anxiety but for this movie it was welcomed as these are hard times and watching something like this I should be feeling emotions that go along with it, at least that is how I feel about watching movies. Helmsworth was mind blowing and his acting was top tier. Sometimes these "comic book" characters can be hard on the actor and it doesn't come across well on film. Let me tell you, he had non of this problem and was presently surprised at his ability to act out a character like that. Love the mythos of these movies and adding to the lore of these amazing movies. Really enjoyed watching this movie even with the added anxiety and tension the movie made me feel. Beautiful shots and angles to go along with great acting. Just watch it! I will now have to watch the first one to see what I missed in this movie that added to the mythos.
