  • Wow. I was not expecting that.
I love horror films. My top two favorite horror characters have to be Freddy Krueger from ”Nightmare in Elm Street” and Jason Voorhees from the ”Friday the 13th” franchises. Almost all the films, and have some memorabilia around the home. When I heard that they were bringing ”Friday the 13th: The Game - Ultimate Slasher Edition,” I was ecstatic! I couldn't believe that they were making a new game based on one of my favorite icons of horror. In the game, you play as either Jason (or one of his various versions in multiple movies!), or one of a group of teenage camp counselors who have to not only survive Jason’s ”wrath,” but also have to complete certain tasks to get away from the infamous Camp Crystal Lake. What is neat about the game is which side you are on, Jason or the counselors. If you happen to be the ”Hockey mask-wearing slasher”, you have different supernatural capabilities to allow you to hunt and eliminate the counselors. On the other end, if you are playing online, the counselors can work together to escape. They can communicate through walkie-talkies, or if they are in the same room, they can talk to each other, and the remainder of the group, including Jason, can’t hear them. It’s a very cool concept, and I'm glad to see that they put that into the game! And, as a bonus, they put a cool poster in with the game, which I hope to one day frame on the wall. There are only a few negatives I have. 1) I'm a casual gamer most of the time. I have some party games, but not any of the big-name Nintendo titles. This game had an extremely steep learning curve. It was intimidating enough that I have not played it as much, and I am still trying to learn how to play. 2) I only found one person (who happens to be a stranger to me!) want to team up online to play. I could not get a large enough group of people to play, which meant I have to play against the CPU, and it is very unforgiving. 3) I am unsure if it is because of the power of the Nintendo Switch, or the programming of the characters and environments in the game, but the graphics aren’t great (which, if it is due to the graphics of the Switch system, I completely understand!), and at times took away from the game. For those three reasons, I dropped my score down from five stars to four. I really like the franchise, and on Nintendo's eShop there is an isometric puzzle game based on Jason and the movies, which is more my speed at the moment. I hope in the future I can get better at the game and find more players, but at least I have yet another item to add to my collection. ... show more

  • Excellent for any Fan
This game has been out for a while in other consoles and PC. It's a solid game, with varied mechanics to survive or to kill other players if you get to be Jason. It's still has some bugs but nothing important. On switch it has a very important graphical downgrade so be aware that some of the kills will lose some of its flare but it's still enjoyable. Now the big question. Will it stand the pass of time? Well it depends. If you're a fan of the Friday the 13th franchise, then yes it will. The multiplayer is fun and the offline options will keep you playing when others abandon the game. But if you aren't a fan of the franchise I'd say this game is DEFINETLY A PASS. The joy of the game is to immerse yourself in the ambience of the movies and see Jason do his thing, being able to replicate the movies (challenges are specially fun for this) is a blast. Other than that non fans won't find anything interesting to stick around ... show more

  • Fun and scary
So happy this became available for the Nintendo Switch!!!! It's got great music, and the setting and the Jason changes frequently. You hear when other people are getting attacked/murdered, so you never know where Jason is. In one game I was able to radio Tommy Jarvis but died before he arrived. I've been attached by burlapsack Jason, zombie unmasked/atomic waste Jason and of course hockey masked Jason. Once you die, you can watch the remaining players fight it out. The more stuff you do and the more times you okay the better the chances are of you surviving the next game. I highly recommend it. ... show more

  • Fun game
Fun game, but I preferred playing this on a different console. The switch was not the best platform for this game.
