I bought this item for one reason, the AI. The AI will listen, and when you play the right note, will automatically move to the next note. That seemed to me to be a better way of learning songs vs tablature, where you look at the tab, then back at the guitar, then back at the tab...you get it. I was thinking it would be very valuable to brush up on my scales also. I was disappointed to find out that the lessons that are advertised are add ons you have to buy. I wasn't going to use them anyway, so meh. I just point it out for those who didn't know. So I unpacked everything, charged the battery fully, and installed it on a cheap Epi Les Paul. The installation was straightforward with no problems at all. The capo/clamp that holds the battery box is very awkward. The cable that connects it to the strip is short, and there seems to be no good spot to put it on a 3x3 headstock where it wont interfere with the tuning machines, or put tension on the strings. At the very top of the headstock would be ideal, but the cable wont reach. The cable also should have a 90 degree connector on the box side to take the tension off the connector. I installed the app on my Ipad air running the latest update. The app is actually pretty cool. So I went into the tuner first to tune up my Les Paul wannabe. Nothing. It was strange, it was like the app couldn't "hear" what I was doing. No matter, I backed out of that, tuned with my Fishman tuner and went to a song, in this case the song "Let her go" by Passenger. I switched it to AI mode, and tried again. Nothing. Nada. At this point I had a 200 dollar sinking feeling. So I decided to contact tech support through the FZ website form. No joy there, the captcha kept saying it was invalid, and wouldn't let me past. Just a glitch. So I emailed tech support direct, and received a prompt and courteous reply. The guy said that he would forward the glitch with captcha to the engineering team. Sweet. Then he suggested that I make sure that the FZ had access to the microphone of my ipad, I had already done that. What he wrote next floored me: "So AI mode works by using the microphone of your mobile device to pick up the notes that you're playing, in the same way as the tuner. The first thing I can recommend is to go into 'Play' -> 'Tuner', and verify that all of your strings are in tune." I clearly said in my initial email that the tuner doesn't work. Then he got down to the bread and butter: "This will also let you know how well the app can hear the guitar. If you're using an acoustic guitar, this should work pretty well, even from far away, however if you are using an electric guitar (without an amp), or are playing in a noisy environment, AI mode might not be able to pick up the notes properly." Pretty well? Who sells a product that works "pretty well"? So if I use my electric without an amp, the app wont hear it. I dont even use amps, I use virtual amps through my PC like Guitar Rig 5, TH-U, Amplitube, Scuffham Amps S-Gear and the excellent Waves GTR3. GTR3 alone has 30 different amps, 30 different cabinets, and 25 different stomps. If I tried to get all the amps/effects I have with my software I would need a warehouse. Sooooo why not make a windows app? How about a plugin for the myriad DAW's out there? Using such a plugin would eliminate the "hearing" problems yes? Its worth noting that while I was waiting for a reply to my email I did some jamming on my acoustic. Thats when it dawned on me that in my opinion if you mount the FZ to a dreadnought size acoustic you will have to hold the guitar at an awkward angle to see the frets, and if you cant see the frets what's the use. I think it would work on a parlor size acoustic. I am well aware however that everyone holds their guitar differently, so YMMV. I returned it, but if they gave us a windows app, or a plugin for FL Studio or something, I would buy it again. ... show more

Love the app but one feature needs to be improved upon greatly. The rolling selection element. It's for choosing just about everything from note, scale, voicing and anything you need to select from in the chords and scale section. It's extremely wonky and inconvenient. Let's say I want to change the voicing on a chord from one to two (simple right?) I have the guitar on my lap in one hand and reach over to change the voicing with the other but when I do so it keeps rolling to 15 or 16 and it's really hard to get it to simply stop and lock onto voicing 2. With the guitar in one hand its quite difficult and I find myself having to put the guitar down just to do this. I'm sure this has been brought up before. There are other apps out there that are much easier to use and for this price your's should be easy as well. Perhaps just a plus and minus button could be added to simply pop to the next or last selection. Thanks, that would be great if you could fix this. ... show more

Very cool product, it has its pros and cons. I got this after buying a new guitar, I tried learning guitar a few times since I was a kid, always seemed to hit a wall and give up after a while. Thought I would give this a try. It is by no means a magic pill that will make you an instant guitarist, only time and practice can possibly do that. What this does do, is really helps you keep that interest going by being visual and not having to look at books while trying to play. What I was surprised that I liked most were the video lessons, and how the fretboard was lit up on the strings while he is explaining in the lessons, that helps a lot. I spent some time going through the song library to learn some stuff I liked between practicing the lessons. This part needs some work, I love how it goes through every note to play but I get to the point after learning the notes at slow speed I switch it off and speed it up myself as it gets distracting, which is actually a good thing . The thing I am disappointed with is the ai mode learning the songs, not once have I got it to work with any song I have learned to play. The other thing I am concerned about is how long the led light strip will last as the surface of the rubber seems to be lifting in places. I was worried about installation but it’s actually really easy as long as you take your time and watch the instruction video a few times, even watch some YouTube videos to see people completely messing it up to see what not to do lol. As long as you follow the instructions and take your time it’s very easy. Basically remove the strings and peel and stick a fret at a time, very easy. I might have some gripes about this product but bottom line I cannot help but love my fret zealot, it’s helped me learn, and kept me interested in playing, and given time I hope to have become a half decent guitarist. ... show more
