I purchased a size 8 and a 10. Other reviews stated the skirt ran big and it does. My 9 y/o daughter generally wears a 10. It was huge. The size 8 fit great once I made the waistband smaller. For reference she is 4' 7"/73 lbs. She is tall for her age and the skirt hits her in the middle to lower part of her knee. The material is great. It's a dressier looking material with a some give in it. It was a little wrinkled but that's to be expected during shipping. Ok, for starters... I did size down like so many reviews stated. And that particular skirt barely cleared my kids' behind, much less closed in any sort of fashion. I ended up ordering her normal waist size and to be honest it was still pretty fitted. BUT. My kid likes things below her belly button. Several inches below. Like "roll my tights down and look like I have an inner tube around my waist" in order to get it off her belly. This skirt is meant to sit higher, more at the natural waist. So if your kid is going to shove it down to low rise status, you aren't going to want to size down. At that low rise level, it's pretty long - bottom of kneecaps probably. If you're like me and bought it for a Hogwarts uniform skirt - it's really great for that but might need to be hemmed if you're going more their "normal" size if you don't want it below the knees. We ordered this skirt for a Hermione Granger costume. My daughter absolutely loved it. She's 7, wears size 7 clothing, but the size 7 skirt had to be pinned dramatically, even with the adjustable elastic inside. It was still super cute for her costume, and she has worn it over and over.

SIZE DOWN 2 SIZES! I luckily read another review saying size down 2 whole sizes! [I was hesitant but went for it anyways & ordered a 5 when I’d normally order a 7/8] I got the size 5 for my newly 7 year old (son) to dress up as Harry Potter’s Hermione Granger for Halloween & it fit perfectly with no adjusting of the available elastic adjusters hidden in the skirts waist band -which would only have helped if I needed to make the waist tighter. It is a longer fit and does entirely cover, actually slightly passes the knees on my child. Sturdy, but not very stretchy material with some set in wrinkles from shipping. I assume with proper careful wash & storage it would keep shape very well; but I haven’t washed it yet and will likely just wash/dry normally anyhow. ... show more

The size chart wasn't that accurate, but with kid clothes I don't mind them being a bit bigger (extra wear). I love that it has an elastic waist adjuster! This skirt is perfect other than it is extremely too big. My daughter typically wears a size 12 and I ordered this in a size 8 due to other reviews. It fits perfectly! I would definitely recommend ordering a size or two down. I ordered this for her Hermione Halloween costume and wound up ordering two more in different colors for school. She loves them! This skirt is targeted for girls, not women. However, I am a size 10-14 in women's and I ordered the 20 in big girls and it fits fine! The big girls has a wider hip/wider flow I believe. I'm 5'4 and it comes to my knees like I wanted. It's just a tad bit loose, but it comes with elastic and a button to tighten it. It did come out a bit wrinkled from being in the bag, some of the pleated bits aren't too pleated. I'm hoping the dry cleaners or a hang in the bathroom during a hot shower can fix that. I took the advice of other reviews… my daughter is 11 and tall and lean. I ordered a size 8 and it fits well with a little room to tighten the waist elastic.
