My son is ROUGH on his boots - stomping and wading through puddles, lakes, and streams, running through dirt, mud, you name it. He's an adventurer at heart, and it's important that his boots be up to the challenge. He's also particular about the fit of his boots and footwear, so it should say that much more when I share that he's on his second pair of these, he likes them THAT much. These boots are true to size, waterproof (to a point - i.e., if you wade to the laces or past the top of the boot, your feet WILL get wet), comfortable (from what I hear from my son), and durable. They also don't seem to smell too much after heavy use – unless of course, the insides get wet. If that happens, your best bet is to drain the excess water immediately and then get them on a boot dryer ASAP. While it won't completely eliminate the risk of odor, it greatly reduces it (believe me!). Since they're leather, the tops do run the risk of shrinking up just a bit while drying (like any other leather item), but the soles are very well made and help maintain the shape of the boot, thereby not affecting the size enough to be an issue. I should note that the traction on the soles of these boots seems to be fantastic too, even in slippery and wet conditions and on logs and rocks. So this is my second time purchasing a set of Free Soldier Boots, my last pair are the first boots I've ever bought that have made it near through a full work year, so I bought another pair recently. Let me tell you this set of boots I just got were some of the most COMFORTABLE boots, I have ever worn. I had no struggle getting them on or off, I didn't need to break them in. The only spot that I have had any issue so far wearing them has been on my right Pinky Toe, that foot is slightly bigger, so I get some very minor rubbing on it. I highly recommend these so far, but I may update my review if anything out of the ordinary happens in the following months as my last pair lasted just around 8 Months of Major Laborious Use. My son recently started with Scouting American and we have a hiking trip coming up for the Cub Scouts. I ordered these to find a comfortable pair of hiking boots that were light weight, comfortable and provided the necessary support for my lower back issues (I have multiple herniated discs in my L and S area). I am a Marine Veteran that worked on helicopters, so I am very familiar with similar work boots and hiking boots ( or combat boots or safety boots for the flight line). From my initial camping trip, I have fallen in love with these boots. I wear them everyday that I am outside working, or even going to work on casual days. They are more comfortable than most of my tennis shoes, and shoes with specific insoles to give my lower back support. I have already started recommending this boot to others that are starting out camping and hiking with Scouting America. Comfortable boots and very stylish. Unfortunately wearing them for pest control (lots of outside work) asphalt, grass, hills they didn’t last long at all. They were delivered on july 4th and by September i had wore a hold in the tread on both boots. We lost our homes in flooding in Western NC and I had ordered these boots to work in all the mud and debris and these boots are very comfortable and durable. Love these boots these are truly the Beat boots I ever owned

These hiking boots are so soft, feels like wearing slippers, SOOO comfortable. I was not expecting this quality. Excellent boots I have had them 3 days, walked approx 6-8 miles every day. Again , So comfortable !!! And waterproof, haven't tested that yet. 🤔
