Flavor Name: Sichuan Sauce Variety Pack
If you follow celebrity chefs or the recipe/cooking trends in the New York Times, you've probably noticed the latest "must-have" condiment is chili crisp. For the uninitiated, chili crisp (or chile crisp in the NYT) is a mixture of oil, minced onion, red pepper flakes, sesame seeds and other optional flavorings. This starter pack from FlyByJing is an excellent way to try different versions. You get four jars of the condiment: Spicy Sichuan, Xtra Spicy, Zhong and Chengdu Crunch. All four have some spiciness, with the Zhong sauce being a sweet/spicy version, and the Chengdu being very crunchy due to the addition of some whole beans like fava, split pea and soybeans. They are all vegan and non-GMO. The condiments can be used both during the cooking process and as a topping. The flavors are tremendous and the heat isn't overwhelming. For instance, the first recipe I used the Spicy Sichuan in called for 3 Tbsp. of chili crisp, but I halved it because my husband isn't a big fan of spicy heat. He liked it and had no problem with the heat. The next time I used 2 Tbsp. and he was still able to tolerate it. Since I love spicy food, I simply mixed more chili crisp into my own bowl at the end of cooking and got a nice warm tingling heat in my mouth and throat. These sauces/condiments are fantastic, but the product labels are on par with doc bronner. Chef Jing Gao apparently used to go by another name, or something, and her story is printed in tiny text all over the labels. I guess she felt it was needed, but it seems a little bizarre. More of a personal feeling than anything else, but unfortunately the flavors were not for me. However, you can clearly tell from other reviews that this is a big hit with most. The sauces are well packaged and seem to be made from high quality ingredients. While the flavors were not to my taste, there's clearly a good following for this brand! ... show more

Don’t buy this unless you want to become addicted and give ownership of your soul and paycheck to this company! All joking aside this is a great little starter set. I grew up on spicy food and don’t usually shy away from new tastes and flavors but I haven’t dipped my toe into the chili oil pool until now. I’m addicted and have put this in everything I’ve eaten since I got it in the mail a week ago. This set gives you a way to tested out 4 different flavors and see if you have a preference or if you just like them all. I’m in the like them all camp. Chili oil in/on your omelette is a delightful addition to breakfast. Or chili oil in a cucumber salad has been going viral lately and now that I’ve tried it I understand the hype. I love all of the flavors but my absolute favorite is the sichuan chili crisp. I use a recipe I found online for a cucumber chicken salad with mayo and it’s refreshing as heck on a 90° day right from the fridge. You can use crackers or chips to dip but I tend to just dig right in no chips required. I do find the mayo mellows out the heat some but I’m ok with that. These each have a different level of heat but all were in my opinion balanced and did a great job of opening up the taste buds and helping enhance the flavors of the rest of the food. I’m planning on grilling some this weekend and wondering how it will taste in steaks!! This is an amazing set of Chili Crisps - it's great for anyone looking to get into trying out different flavors of crisps. First off, these crisps are made with all natural ingredients - non-gmo and vegan. I can feel good about my family eating them. I hate when companies add a bunch of ingredients that I don't even know what they are - but none of those worries with these FLYBYJING crisps! Ok, the flavor - I don't even know where to begin - but holy moly, these are packed with delicious flavor. Each one is distinctly different that it's hard to pick which one is my favorite - they are all wonderfully delicious. I have been putting these crisps on everything - from BLTs, to eggs, to fish, to potatoes, to sourdough bread. If you're unsure of what to put them on - the answer is everything. I eat it straight with a spoon because I love them so much. With the holidays, this set would make a spectacular gift for anyone who likes to add a kick of spice to their meals or snacks. The price point is amazing - especially when compared to other brands. I am blown away by the quality and flavor delivered by this company. The flavors are fine. Zhong sauce is actually quite flavorful and goes well with any meat/veg. However, I noticed that both the “xtra spicy” and regular chili crisp are more oil than crisp. 2 years ago when I bought these items they were chock full of that sichuan chili goodness, but now it’s just an oily mess of flavorless slop. Buy the standalone zhong sauce, skip the rest and find a better brand. ... show more

This variety pack of chili crisp is so tasty. There are varying sweetness and heat levels which offer a nice diversity of flavors and profiles depending on what you are craving. Obviously they go great in stir fries but I've found that I sneak them into all sorts of other dishes for a flavor boost. Think: spicy chili burritos, Sichuan hummus, taco topping, fried rice, pasta salads, bean dips, cold veggie wraps, and so much more. I find myself dipping into these all the time. Overall the quality and taste are top notch. Far better than the generic chili-crisp you might buy at a local market. My only piece of advice (besides go for it!) is to go easy on them because they are a bit heavy in fats and salt. The good news is that a little goes a long way. These are excellent! ... show more
