  • Kohler Toilets be warned!
Great product, I have 2 bathrooms in my condo and I tend to use one and never touch the other. This results in that nasty ring at the water level of the mostly unused toilet. I've used the drop-in blue hockey pucks before but they ultimately leave nasty sticky residue all over the tank internals leading to malfunctioning parts. Kohler specifically states do not use those ever. This product is awesome however it does require modifications. If you have a newer KOHLER toilet, the lid wont sit flush it will be slanted to the front. I used a multi-tool to trim down the plastic housing so it can sit in one of the grooves behind the toilet (see photos). Additionally having it sit to the far right means the provided tubing isn't long enough, so I had to get tubing from home depot. Only just installed them on my 2 toilets but I can say it has a strong bleach smell to start. Maybe it will become less harsh with more flushes. Just be prepared to do some modifications if you own a KOHLER. A dremel or multitool makes quick work of the plastic housing. ... show more

  • Works, without destroying your toilet
With experience over the years trying many different products, I've found that the only toilet cleaning solutions that are effective are those where the cleaning solution actually passes through the flush system (i.e., through the holes around the rim). The types that just clip onto the edge of the bowl are cute, but ineffective at actually keeping the toilet clean. There are many products sold that go in the tank which are effective at cleaning, however, they are harmful to the internal components and cause premature failure that can lead to leaks, and possibly property damage. The Fluidmaster system cleans effectively, without causing any damage to the toilet components. Its design is simple, yet genius. It consists of a small unit that connects onto the refill line, between the fill value and refill tube. The unit accepts a replaceable bleach cartridge and is completely sealed. When the toilet is flushed, water passes through the cleaning system, directly into the refill tube. This water passes through the flush holes and into the bowl, allowing the cleaning solution to be evenly distributed without any of the solution entering the tank. With this system clean water from the tank is used to flush, followed by the water with cleaning solution as the toilet refills. They claim that the bleach cartridges last approximately 3 months and I imagine that depends upon the amount of use. Unlike the bleach tablets you put directly in the tank which will continue to dissolve even without use (and thus the bleach content gets stronger and stronger), the Fluidmaster cartridges only get used when the toilet is flushed. This is by far the best cleaning system I've seen. It's simple, affordable, and effective. If you hate constantly scrubbing toilets, you may want to get this. We tried it in one of our toilets and it worked so well we bought three more. Oh, and if you're worried about remembering to change the cartridges, Fluidmaster has a website where you can sign up for reminders (and I'm sure they'll be more than happy to sell you the refills as well.) You can also get these on Amazon Subscribe and Save at a good price. That's what I did, so when they show up, I know it's time to change them. Also, as a side note, I did try buying chlorine tablets and using them instead of buying the replacement cartridges, as many others have done. While this option may be slightly less expensive, I've found that not to be a good option for several reasons. First, the chlorine smell is unbearable, even if I used only 1 tablet instead of two. Using bromine tablets would probably be better for that issue. Secondly, the chlorine tablets continue dissolving inside the cleaning system, even when the toilet is not used much. I had put 1 tablet in one of the toilets that we do not use much and after a week or so I flushed it and the smell was at toxic levels. I removed the cartridge to inspect and it had mostly dissolved and the fumes nearly killed me. The Fluidmaster refills do not seem to have this problem, as I've inspected all 4 of our toilets regularly while using them over the past year and find that those that are not used much stay intact, while those used more often dissolve faster. This is better as they remain effective for much longer in most of our toilets and I only have to replace the ones that are used more every 2-3 months. I'm not sure what's different about the tablets in the refill cartridges, but I've found it better to just buy them less often than trying to keep up with the chlorine tablets. I can say that our toilets do stay much cleaner using this system, so it has been worth the investment. ... show more

  • Works well
I've been using this for a couple of weeks now and it has really helped with keeping the toilet looking clean. We have really hard water and I usually have to really scrub to get the bowl clean, but not since using this system. I know several of the reviews said they had trouble installing it, but I'm a 70 year old grandma and I had no trouble at all. It took less than a minute. ... show more

  • Fixed my issue... was unexpected work to set up
I bought this because one of the toilets in our house builds up a lot of grime quickly and I am too busy to be using a stone in this toilet bowl all the time. This thing helped out a bunch! Pros: -grime built up drastically dropped by about 90%. I need to use a regular toilet brush about every other week. Sometimes I need to use the stone but the toilet is old so it's probably other issues. -These really do last the whole 3 months. The blue cleaner keeps coming out and could maybe go a little longer past 3 months but I haven't tested that. -No weird/strong cleaner smell... I actually do not smell anything from it at all Cons: -It was a pain to set up... If you are not familiar with toilet parts, you will need to set some time (1hr+) to set this up. You have to take apart tubes in your toilet tank. I had to take apart clips and then put them back on (not sure if it was just my toilet with the clips set up like that though?). I had to use plyers. I had to test then readjust approx. 3x's because I wasn't getting it right. The toilet tank was just a brand new world to me, so it was tedious work but it is manageable! Overall I'm happy with it and now that it's set up, all I have to do is buy refills. ... show more

  • smell overwhelming
Super easy to install - great idea ! Works great, but the bleach smell is overwhelming ! hoping they add a "fresh scent" option in the future because I hate cleaning my toilets, but in my master bathroom I don't flush if I go in the night because the smell makes me gag !

  • Seems to be working as should
So far it doesnt seem like it will break down the components in the toilet. Strong bleach smell but it's staying clean.

  • Toilet is clean
This works pretty well, and it's nice that it doesn't damage the seals on your tank. The smell is quite bleachy, but I like that because it smells clean.

  • Great cleaning but doesn't last 3 months
Purchased this cleaning system in August 2022 and it has worked great but do not expect it to last 3 months (as advertised) unless you live alone and no one else uses your toilet. In a household of 3 people I had to replace the cartridge exactly a month after initial installation. However, we are approaching 2 months of usage and, although I suspect I'll have to replace the cartridge again in a couple of weeks, it has kept the toilet spotless. I have purposely not scrubbed the toilet and it very clean. Odor is not that strong, unless you are very sensitive to odors. I used another brand for a couple of years but the tablets are expensive so even if I have to replace the cartridge monthly it will still be cheaper than my old system. ... show more
