  • The very best fill valve in all ways!
Size: 1- Pack Pattern Name: Kit
First off, Amazon has the picture wrong on this. The 400CR is the newer version with the screw type float height adjuster..always, whereas the 400C can be the old (bar and clip adjuster) or new version because Fluidmaster reverted back to using just 400C some time after the design revision. I knew this when I ordered, but for those of you who care, there it is. I've had both the old and new and just prefer the newer design personally, but plumbers don't seem to care either way. They both function exactly the same way. This is by far the best designed, easiest to install and configure, and reliable fill valve available. I've installed it in each of my toilets over the years. It fills fast, fairly quietly and doesn't cause pipe hammer. I finally had to replace one (the older design) because it repeatedly started having issues. I'd had it in the toilet for at least 10 years anyway! First it started running, which was easily fixed with a cap flushing, but then water stopped flowing to the fill tube. The clog was down in the fill valve below the cap and did not stay fixed with a flushing, so I just decided to replace it. They only take a few minutes to replace and the cost is nominal. The flapper that comes with it is of good quality but I haven't used it. It can be installad on round or square fill tubes that have flapper posts on them. (A post ring for fill tube is not included. Looks like the picture of the black part of the flapper is wrong too. It does not have a fill tube ring. It is open ended just with hooks) My one toilet has a flapper with the timing cup on top of it and it's own drain seat insert that it's attached to (555CRP8, also made by Fluidmaster, 555C is the newest version) because the fill tube is too far from the drain and a standard offset on the flapper, as this has, wouldn't center and seal properly. The other toilet still has a firm gray one with a notched plastic "chain" that I installed separately years ago too. If they aint broke, I don't replace them! Flappers are the touchy part. In addition, fluidmaster provides excellent instructions for the DIYers like me, both in the package and on their website, including troubleshooting instructions. Top notch professional company. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • My toilet is good as new.
Size: 1- Pack Pattern Name: Kit
I'm a complete amateur - meaning I never did this before...So I thought...well I could try this and maybe avoid an expensive call to a plumber. I mean honestly i'd have to call one if I screwed up, but if I did nothing i'd have to anyway to get my toilet fixed- so nothing to lose right? Right! So I bought this kit and it was really pretty easy. If you are like me and it's your first time let me offer this advice - save the old unit you pull out. For a few reasons. Reason #1 - you can use it to make sure the pull chain for the new flapper is the right length and that saves you trial and error to get it just right. Reason #2: the height of the unit needs to be adjusted to fit your toilet- if you compare the new to the old this will save you time there as well. Reason #3 - spare parts. I ended up using a clip for the overflow hose and I also reused the nut that secured the old unit to the tank because the one that came with the package had wings that wouldn't fit underneath where I needed to secure it - saved me a trip to the hardware store. I know this might sound intimidating but the whole process took less than 20 minutes and now my toilet runs like new. If I can do it anyone can! ... show more

  • Wow! What A Difference! A Great Product! (But not the Flapper).
Size: 1- Pack Pattern Name: Kit
Fluidmaster Toilet Fill Valve is GREAT (5 stars) but Flapper is NO Good (3 stars). My 12 year old fill valve was not accurately filling the tank, we had constantly overflow - initially thought it was a flapper issue but then later realized that water in tank was flowing into the overflow valve. Then I knew that it was the fill valve that was bad. After replacing the fill valve no more problems. But the flapper didn't work because it has a notch not a hole, so whenever we flush, the the water current would blow flapper off from the holder. See the picture provided. I guess for certain toilet models it might work, but not mine. So I got another flapper that has a hole, and now it holds well. So all in all, fill valve is great, the instruction is also well written. It works much better than my old one (when it was new). So if you have a fill valve issue, just get Fill Valve separately. Easy to install, and works great! But don't get the Fill Valve & Flapper Repair Kit. If you have a flapper issue, get a separate flapper from your hardware store. Highly Recommended! ... show more

  • Great Value, Quick, Easy Installation
Size: 1- Pack Pattern Name: Kit
The area I live in has hard water. There are a lot of mineral deposits in the water which can, over time, create some plumbing issues. Our toilet was filling slower and slower and no matter what I tried, I could not resolve the restricted water flow. The old water fill valve system was a Fluidmaster and I was pleased with the value and performance. I ordered a new Fluidmaster 400CR. What most people do not realize is that your problem is with the fill part of the system, you do not need to replace the entire part. There is a white plastic part about ¾” wide that slips up and frees the bottom part of the value assembly. It takes a little twisting/pulling to get it off, but you then can just replace the top part – the part which actually controls the fill. To change just the operating part. Turn the water off, flush the toilet to drain the water from the tank. Reach under the assembly and move the white plastic part up. Pull the upper assembly off. Do the same with the new assembly. Put the new assembly over the old fill pipe. Push down the retaining ring. Reconnect the overflow hose. It takes less than a minute and there are no leaks. You do not need to worry about the supply line. If you are replacing a different assembly, you will need to replace the entire assembly. Turn the water off, place a catch bucket under the supply line input. Flush the toilet. Unscrew the assembly screw. Take out the old assembly and insert the new assembly. Tighten the new assembly in place. Reconnect the supply line. Turn the water on and check for leaks. This will take about 15 – 20 minutes. Great value, quick and easy installation. ... show more
