I have had a pair of Keene's and liked them, and I actually did my search for Keene's, but a lot of other similar sandals came up. I got this pair and just took a walk in them and like them. One thing about Keene's is they come in half sizes, but they also have a fixed strap in back. This pair comes in full sizes, so I ordered a 10 when I usually wear a 9.5, but I noticed they have an adjustable strap in back, so that makes it great to size them for the best fit. They are pretty sturdy, very similar to Keene's, and are pretty comfortable, but the only drawback is that the rubber nose part doesn't go around the sides as much as Keene's. I was worried that my left foot, a tad larger, might have a problem from rubbing on the opening, see photo, but it doesn't appear to be a problem. However, since everyone's feet are different, I'd bet that some folks won't like that fit by the big toe. So, for less than half the price of Keene's, I'm damn happy and definitely prefer having two pairs of these for less than one pair of Keene's. Time to order another color! ... show more

I purchased these shoes on Sep 8, 2023. I am a truck driver. I need comfortable yet durable shoes. I used these shoes since I bought 6 days a week. Several weeks ago I walked inside about 15 inches deep water under rain in a receiver's yard in Miami, Florida. I walked around snow, in mud. I jumped on and out of the trailer hundreds of times. For 14 months they served me very good. As you can see on the photos the right side shoe was damaged. Yeaa, I felt sad like I was dumping a long time familiar friend into dumpster. It beared 14 months of cruelty very well like military commando boots. I bought 2 pairs. Now, I am wearing the second, new pair. Dependable, durable, comfortable shoes with ergonomic base structure. There is nothing that I dislike about these sandals. They are very comfortable with socks and without. I usually wear them more in warmer and hot weather, so my feet can breathe. But they are great year round. The size twelve sandal is perfect for me. They have great arch support. And I have not had a problem with blisters. Very comfortable. Overall, I was disappointed with the product and should have returned them, but I've worn them now. I've noticed that these types of sandals, in general, have become poorly made as prices have gone up on materials and transportation. Firstly, the sole is thicker than necessary to cushion your feet, so it will take some breaking in before you stop feeling like you're walking flatfooted. Second, the toe area is wider than necessary and causes you to have to walk in an extreme heel-toe manner so that you don't catch a toe. I haven't done it, but I would not run up the stair in them unless I wanted to catch a toe and end up with a broken shin. The leather body of the shoe is very firm and will take some time to break in, like a new baseball glove. I'm considering soaking them and then oiling them to soften them up some, but only if I can make sure that the color is fast enough to not be ruined. Finally, the Velcro straps are not very good. Though it covers both sides of the flap well, unless you have a good 2 inches of Velcro adhered, it will come undone while you are walking. Also, if you expect to just slip into and out of these shoes, you'll be disappointed. Even if you have the back strap fixed to your preferred length, you'll have to pull your heels over the strap whether you're putting them on or taking them off. Overall, I would not recommend these if you wanted them for covering rough terrain, easy on easy off convenience, or for comfort from the first time wearing them.
