Description

Large, parka with synthetic lining that reaches down over the rear and thighs. The perfect winter garment for changing weather conditions, it protects against the wind and rain at the same time as the Supreme Micro Loft padding keeps you warm in really low temperatures. Detachable hood with soft fleece lining and warm faux-fur trimming that protects against snowstorms. Many practical pockets, including two large zippered breast pockets, a pocket for a media player on the sleeve and two bellow pockets with hand-warming pockets at the hem. On the inside, there are two mesh pockets, two media player pockets with openings for ear phones, safety pockets and one Napoleon pocket. Ribbed knitting at the neck keeps cold drafts out. Draw cord at the hem and long, two-way zipper with protective flap. Velcro adjustments at the sleeve cuffs.

So this a very high quality parka. The stitching is good, the material appears quality, I'm sure it will be durable in the long term; but it is false advertising on one point. It is absolutely not waterproof. I got this parka not long ago and was in light rain. The outer shell material totally soaked up the water. Because it was just a light rain for a short period of time outside no water reached my skin. I decided to apply DWR spray treatment. I applied it liberally, and did multiple coats. I had another occasion in light rain, and the DWR treatment that I use successfully on many other garments was ineffective. There is something about the material used on this garment that won't allow even high quality water repellents to be effective. I'm very dissapointed about that. I had such high hopes for this parka. I don't regret buying it because it is very warm and comfortable; but it does not live up to the marketing. Another point of disappointment exists. The hood is unusable!!! Even with the hood adjusted to its smallest setting, the hood is so big that when its up and in use, it falls so far over my face that I can't see to walk. The hood is at least twice too big. I would have made this hood half the size, and even then, it would still be maybe a little large. ... show more

Pros : super warm, made by as ethical a clothing company as you'll find, detachable hood, great colors. Honestly I can throw a t shirt on and run my dog out in freezing weather. Cons : sizes run QUITE large. I'm 6'0, 155 lbs, got a small on advice of reviews and it's STILL a little big on me. My reach (boxing measures) is 70", and the sleeves are so long they come all the way to my knuckles. I don't typically wear parkas, so I'm not sure if this is intentional, but I've tried other fjallraven jackets and size small was fine. The wrist is also not tapered at all there is a velcro strap to tighten it but it feels kind of bunchy when you do. I will admit though that if you're wearing a parka you're probably wearing gloves too, so a wider opening is better to get the cuff in. ... show more

    • Best winter coat I've ever owned for Chicagoland cold

This is absolutely the best winter coat that I've ever owned. I ordered a small based on reviews and actually trying a coat on at a Fjallraven store. It's noticeably heavy when you hold it, but when you wear it, the weight distributes wonderfully across the shoulders and you won't even notice it. There are so many intelligently-placed pockets that are accessible by hands that are still wearing gloves, so the functionality of the coat is amazing. The hood is so deep that I can wear a cap and pull the hood up and still be warm when it is very cold outside. Like most outdoor-enthusiast apparel, it is cut to fit someone that is in reasonable shape, so it will likely be snug for someone that is overweight. Sizing up to accommodate the chest/abdomen areas will likely result in sleeves that are longer than desired. I am 5'10" and 154lbs, but it would be snug for me in my 185lbs days. I can comfortably wear many layers in the coat and even have a full-on suit for work underneath. ... show more

    • Wanted to love it, but ...
I did NOT want to return this parka. The quality feels lovely, especially as it slides on. However, there were a few issues, and I could not keep it. I am 5'8", 150lbs, I wear larger shirts, but still fit into 29" jeans. I am not muscular, but rather slight. So the big bulky midsection of this coat (a size Men's Small) was just weird ... and there is no waist drawstring. To make it worse, my shoulders were a little tight, but not enough to restrict movement ... but here's what really bugged me: The arm holes are too small! So there was a constant bunching pressure on the underarms. If I had any layers on (which would have been required .. the insulation is not that thick) they made my armpits feel claustrophobic. The zipper is a two-way, left hand zip. Hard enough to get it started ... would be next to impossible with gloves. Good quality though. Very solid. Plush feeling, but I felt like a bell- and the lower handwarming pockets were too far down ... so I had to either shrug my shoulders to put hands in, or pull the lower part up. This coat would fit TALL slender people with big bellies. I know that sounds funny ....at least I can tell you I hemmed and hawed for over a week before making the decision. It really felt nice to put on. Also - I felt it important to note that one of the reasons I ranked this product but 3 stars was that I did send a message to the company telling them of my discomfort, and asking how I might make it better .. perhaps a suggestion as to another similar product of their line, and a size recommendation, etc., but I did not get a response. ... show more

    • Ready to tackle the Chicago winter in this parka!
I had originally purchased the Fjallraven Men's Greenland Down Jacket, Dark Navy, Large and was pretty dissatisfied. The coat was enormous and the zipper was a huge pain since the coat was so bulky. I didn't want to give up on Fjallraven just yet though. I returned the Greenland and decided to switch over to this model. I'm really happy I did. I took a hint from the Greenland and sized down for the parka. The medium fits perfectly. The Parka is full of pockets and the hood is adjustable to your liking. Also the coat comes in black (the Greenland jacket did not) and is very warm. The zipper is still a bit of a pain but not nearly as bad since the parka isn't as bulky as the Greenland Jacket. Overall, I love this parka and feel better prepared for winter in the Midwest. ... show more

    • Warm, stylish winter jacket. But you MUST size down.

Perfect winter jacket. Very stylish, which is rare for these arctic-level jackets. It also has a million pockets (maybe too many? if that's possible). Know that Fjallraven's sizing system is crazy, you MUST size down. I typically wear a Medium and had to get a Small, and it's still pretty pretty big. I live in NYC and put this on once it gets into the 40's. It's still very warm for that weather, and I can see this keeping me warm well below zero, just haven't had a chance to test it in that weather yet. ... show more
