This movie was bonkers. Amazing entertainment when you want to yell at the screen and feel good about your choices. Christian Grey, how are you a billionaire when all you do is stalk women and steal bites of their toast? Anastasia Steele, please go to grad school and leave this creepy weirdo alone. Jennifer Ehle, of Pride and Prejudice 1995 fame, what the hell are you doing in this movie??????? My god. A cinematic masterpiece. ... show more

  • Read the book? Don't waste your time or money!
Oh, gosh...where to begin. If you HAVE NOT read the book(s) - and don't intend to, then this review probably won't be very helpful to you, and you really should just go see it...decide if you like it for yourself (trust me, the similarities are dang near invisible). I previously left a review of the Fifty Shades Trilogy (book); this is going to be the antithesis of said review. If you HAVE taken the time to read the book(s), don't bother with this film. You will be so very disappointed...I mean, seriously disappointed...no matter what element of the book(s) you loved and wanted to see brought to life...the people, the sex (just watch 91/2 weeks again), the city, the banter...you name it -- NONE. OF. IT. COMES. THROUGH. I was hesitant to watch this movie (and Lord knows my daughter warned me), because I am almost always disappointed in the writers' visions ascribed to screenplays based on books I've liked (i.e., "The Firm" -- ugh!). I should have listened to my daughter...I should have listened to myself! That said -- the film, overall, is dull; drags on and on, leading nowhere -- which is quite a feat, considering all the things that were NOT included/covered by this screenplay...and mind you, this was an EASY read; contains very little of the character-building elements needed to setup any subsequent film(s)...heaven help us; and barely conveyed the raw chemistry at work with the two main characters. I believe that, given a properly-written screenplay - based on the Fifty Shades books, Dakota Johnson would kill it; she was the perfect choice to play Ana; however, she was given crap...I imagine she did the best she could with what she had. That's all the good I have to say about this film. The dialog is flat...the chemistry is non-existent...the underlying story behind the story is completely missing, which is unfortunate, since it is so very poignant to the progression of the relationship of the main characters. I simply cannot understand who thought this guy could pull off Christian Grey...he doesn't walk right, he doesn't talk right, he doesn't LOOK right (um... his HAIR?). If they had gotten two, or even one, of those things correct, it might have worked...maybe. Hell, the dang *driver* is hotter than Christian (yup, I've seen this guy in tons of other films/shows and he (Taylor) is hot in FSOG...go figure)! Off the top of my head, I can think of TWENTY actors who could have done the Christian character justice -- using HALF of their natural, raw talent and looks...not to say Jamie Dornan is a terrible actor (or isn't hot...he did okay in Once Upon a Time)...this just wasn't his role to play. The Kate character is completely wrong, and don't get me started on Elliot...even the choice for Christian's mother was off-target. Repeat: If you HAVE read the book(s), don't bother with this film. You will be so very disappointed...I mean, seriously disappointed...no matter what element of the book(s) you loved and wanted to see...the people, the sex (just watch 91/2 weeks again...), the city, the banter...you name it -- NONE. OF. IT. COMES. THROUGH...except for casting Dakota Johnson as Ana...HER, they nailed...no pun intended. ... show more
