This isn't a qualified violin. It is a VOS. My child's teacher was fine with this but we retuned it because it wouldn't hold a tight string. I couldn't fix it.

    • The bridge is not cut to fit instrument.
The instrument was sold with bridge not cut to fit the violin. I will have to take to a music store and have it cut to fit. Do not buy!!!

Size: 4/4 violin Color: Brown Matte
This instrument is a classic example of what violin teachers call a VSO (violin-shaped object). As VSOs go, this is one of the better ones. The first thing I noticed when I received it was that the case was incredibly lightweight. So light, in fact, that I thought they forgot to put anything in it. But I opened the case and there was a nice-looking VSO inside. When I picked it up, I noticed that the neck felt kind of rough on the sides. The fingerboard looks and feels sort of rough also. The bridge had only the faintest of notches for the strings, so I had to enlarge a couple of them to get the strings to set properly. The strings and bow are very basic but they work. I got the instrument tuned up and after a few days the tuning seems almost stable. It's more difficult to play than my 'real' violin. I'd give the VSO itself 3 stars but I'll add another star for the complete ensemble, since it really does have everything you need to start playing. I would not recommend this as a first instrument, but it's fine if you want a second fiddle to take on a camping trip or if you play other instruments and want to give the violin a try without spending too much money. ... show more
