  • Fast. Great overall package.
Capacity: 1T
The disk checks out in Crystal DiskMark and DiskInfo (see pics). I didn't try and verify the exact chip being used - 1. because it doesn't matter, 2. because it could change from drive to drive. As long as it meets the advertised specs. The disc reads and writes as fast (a bit quicker actually) as my PCIE4 NVME in a adapter - when on USB 3.2gen2. Testing was done on a USB4/Thunderbolt port to eliminate any bottlenecks, and used multiple cables. I'm not going to post the results here because they can be hard to interpret - just know it performs spectacularly. It is hard to determine the size of the disk, but is around the size of a credit card. The build quality of the enclosure is fantastic: it is rugged and weighty, and looks classy with the black screws. The rubber shock absorber is removable. The product is listed as IP68... but it doesn't have any plug or anything to go over the port. However, this doesn't mean it doesn't meet the IP68 standard: many phones have the same design. The included USB cable is extremely convenient and should be considered when thinking about the overall value of the product. I especially like that it displays the transfer speed directly on the cable. I'm very happy with this product and would recommend it to anyone. I am comfortable putting it in a pocket, or tossing it into my camera bag -- something I wouldn't necessarily do with a normal m.2 NVME in a case. If you are looking for the absolute lowest price per GB, there are less expensive options. But the quality of this overall package makes it worth a few extra dollars: the storage isn't going to do you any good if the drive gets damaged, after all. 5/5 - I don't have any suggestions for improvements on this product. Oh - it also comes with a nice quality carrying case. And the packaging box itself is actually really nice also. ... show more

  • Casing is bulletproof – Transfer rate not as good as SanDisk – Worth your consideration
Capacity: 1T
The Fanxiang portable 1 TB SSD drive is a digital storage device built for use on the USB 3.2 (or Mac Thunderbolt) superhighway. It’s disk OS consumes only 17 MB of space leaving a plenty for storage. It comes with a soft case and a USB- to USB-C (or USB-A) cable. Everything fits inside the soft case. The shell of the Fanxiang has a hole so it can be held by a carabiner and dangled from a laptop case. The Fanxiang comes formatted exFat that works on PC as well as Mac. My computer is a Mac and the exFat works fine so I did not attempt to nor need to re-format. I also own a SanDisk 1TB Extreme Portable SSD. This device will be used as a benchmark to compare against. The Fanxiang is a beast with a hard aluminum case. It weighs 134 grams and feels hefty. The SanDisk has a hard plastic case and weighs 58 grams. The Fanxiang is designed to be tough to survive abuse. The manufacturer only found one method to destroy the drive. Women have been known to use stiletto-heeled shoes to break pictures of their two-timing, no good, and heart breaking ex boyfriends. Other than this, the Fanxiang is a tough as a NORAD missile silo. To augment it’s toughness, it comes with a blue silicone edge guard that is removable. To test the data transfer speeds, I transferred a 276GB folder to the Fanxiang, and then copied the same folder from the Fanxiang back to my computer. The time to complete these transfers was (in minutes): 31.25 (write) and 56.25 (read). In comparison the SanDisk had 27.25 (write) and 43.24 (read) times. All transfers were done using Thunderbolt using drives that were mostly empty. It is clear that the SanDisk has better transfer speeds. Calculated out the Fanxiang moved data at 82 MB/sec. compared to 106 MB/sec with the SanDisk. Both are not close to their respective specs but my test was using real world conditions. For both SSD’s there were no interruptions during transfer. For my casual work, either SSD has sufficiently rapid transfer rates to be acceptable. The SanDisk does not come with a soft-sided case. But the Fanxiang is tough and will take much more abuse than the SanDisk. My first HDD was a 20 MB that I a paid $300 for use in my early 8088 PC. I do not abuse my drives. SanDisk also has 3 decades of reputation as a safe storage choice for digital data. The Fanxiang cost only a few bucks less than the SanDisk. The Fanxiang is a worthy SDD. It comes down to this: If you will lose your job due to losing data because your SSD got crushed, buy the Fanxiang. If you will lose your job due to losing data on a no-name drive, buy the SanDisk. I give the Fanxiang a B+ rating. ... show more

  • Rugged and fast
Capacity: 1T
I'm a software developer and I am always looking for more disk space for my computer systems, so I picked up the fanxiang Portable SSD 1TB External Hard Drive. Any external drive would do, but this one used an SSD and I was intrigued to see if it would make a difference. My impressions: - The external disk is heavy and rugged. "Heavy" in this sense is relative; it's actually pretty light, but weighs move than my standard external USB drive. It has a rubber shock absorber around it to help with drops, and the case is heavy metal with an IP68 rating. - When first attached to a USB port, the drive is almost immediately available. This is much better than a normal USB drive where it could be several seconds before the drive is up and ready for use. - Transfer rates are much faster than a standard USB drive. I was able to copy several large files to the drive in seconds, though it's kind of hard to be precise because operating systems cache so much that the prompt returns even while the copy continues. Still, it's fast. - The drive comes with a solid carrying case that has a strap for the drive, and a netted section on the other side to carry the USB cable. Also note that the cable to attach to the computer comes with both a USB-C connector, and an adapter for systems that use USB-A, attached to the cable so it won't be lost. Nice! This is a very nice external hard drive. It's a little expensive for my needs since I only need it for backup storage, but it can be used directly for my development work as well, if I choose to use it that way. It's robust and intended to work in industrial environments. Highly recommended! ... show more
