I bought this laser level with the intention to determine how much fill dirt an area in my lower driveway requires to resolve extreme water pooling that caused one area to blow out 4 times last season. For my project to work, I had to wait until after the sun had set. I set a few wooden stakes in preparation to mark fill points on. Once the sun had set though, I could see that the laser was capable of broadcasting well over 400' in linear distance without a problem, the area I worked in was nearly 20,000sf collectively. I created a level reference pad in an area that has no water pooling during rain storms for the laser level to be set on, this is the high ground measuring point that will look outward to all surrounding points to determine just how much lower those areas are in contrast to this reference point. In total darkness, I could see an entirely different reality, an entire area of my lower driveway is anywhere from 5" below the grade of the above mentioned reference point grade, up to 4 feet below grade! I captured a few photos of stakes with the laser hitting them enabling me to mark the grade level with a pen. In one of my photos you will see the laser level line beneath a bush on a hillside next to a gate post, that location is an easy 400' away from the Fanttik laser level itself showing that the laser is highly legible. At this measurement point, it is 39" beneath the reference grade point. In another photo, I bore-sited the camera into the Fanttik laser, this was roughly 150' away from the Fanttik laser level. By my calculations, I will need to have close to 2000 cubic yards of fill dirt trucked in to resolve the water pooling problem. The Fanttik laser level is easy to use and is very well accessorized to make a variety of leveling jobs easy. A semi-rigid storage case is included allowing for safe storage and transport of the laser level. During usage, the available battery power % is displayed within the control pad. - Capable of broadcasting two vertical planes as well as two horizontal planes simultaneously. - The Fanttik can be tri-pod mounted for a variety of construction based leveling functions. - A receiver can be purchased as an option for extended outdoor usage. - The laser level has a very good run-time on a full charge, after 2 hours of usage, the display on my laser level dropped from 100% down to 96%. The Fanttik laser level is IP56 waterproof and shock proof ensuring durability and reliability even in rough working environments! This laser level solves the most basic problem of the beam being able to be seen in the daylight since most people don't want to have to wait for a cloudy day or evening to be able to set stakes to level outdoors. Also helpful is the pulse mode for outdoor use (helps you to find the line). Indoors, most laser levels work fine, as does this one. The laser comes in a nice solid storage box with compartments. Comes with a strong magnetic stand attachment which I find the most useful. I have a 2x4 that I have attached a long sheet of metal to. I can clip this 2x4 to any other surface and slide the laser up and down it to get it to the correct height. I find this much easier to use than a tripod for most construction uses. In the field, yes, you need a tripod and this laser does have tripod mounting threads. Also comes with other mounting brackets - ceiling and floor riser. Plenty of choices of laser lines to use as well as intersecting 90 degree angles. The line is visible for quite a distance. I am a licensed general contractor and have used many laser levels and own two other laser levels. This one has features that are superior to my other two and is significantly better for outdoor, daytime use. The battery lasts quite a while... I cannot say for certain exactly how long, since it is used to set stakes and mark lines but is not left on all day. However, battery life is fine for any normal job use. Very nice tool. Very sturdy. Very functional. I will update this review if I find that the tool does not last as long as I feel it should under normal general contracting usage. UPDATE: I used this tool to set stakes on a 3 acre lot that was narrow (100 feet wide) and long. The laser lines were visible FAR beyond the 300 foot mark that was set to mark the back fence line. I did not hike back to see just how far the line would be visible but at that distance, one would normally just move their tripod to a new position. Even with the line directed forward beyond the 300 foot mark, the line continued in the other direction behind the tripod for that distance as well (hit trees, so no idea how much further it could have gone).     • Great for Most Common Uses
I got this laser level for personal use, not commercial use, and I can say it will meet the needs of most do-it-yourself users. The Fanttik D16 APEX Laser Level is solidly constructed and comes in a nice storage case. The level has a variety of mounting options, depending on one's needs, including a magnetic mount and a tripod mount. The laser lines show up on four different planes, and they are all independently controlled. There is also an LED display that provides important information, including battery status. The battery has lasted long enough for my use; I have not discharged it completely at any time. One thing I really like is that the laser lines are visible outdoors in fairly bright light, unlike some other laser levels that can only be effectively used indoors or when outside light is dim. Apparently a receiver can be purchased to extend the range to 200 ft, but that is more than most nonprofessional users would need. I can't say how well this would work for a contractor or other professional user, but this is all any homeowner, even one who does extensive DIY projects, should ever need.
