The material feels pretty tough, so I expect it to function well protecting the tube. It doesn’t have a lot of stretch, but enough to get it on and then be snug. I was able to keep the stem hole lined up with the rim by placing a bolt through both holes. There were some spots where it wasn’t centered well, and I got a tire tool under it and ran the tool around the wheel on both sides of the rim. This made it easy to center. ... show more

I bought this pair of rim tapes for 700C road bike rims. They went on the rim perfectly and stayed in place while mounting the inner tube and tire. After a broken spoke on my road bike’s rear wheel I needed to replace the rim tape. From my days working at a bike store I remembered rim strips like these and figured I’ll give it a try. This rim strip works out well. It installed in seconds and is easily holding up to the 110psi I use in my 25mm tires (I inspected fit and shape twice after recent flats). It’s great that I can remove it in seconds and reuse it when the next spoke breaks. I didn’t weight the strip before installing but I don’t think there is a significant weight difference to rim tape. Update: on a recent 108 mile ride my tire “blew” at mile 96. Bummer, right? Before replacing the tube, I checked the tire for any remaining sharp objects, none. I didn’t inflate the flat tube to locate the leak and investigate that specific location further. Big mistake. 4 miles later I had a flat tire again, at which point I abandoned my ride. When I investigated later on in my workshop, I found out that the rim tape had shifted a bit, juuuust enough to expose one of the spoke holes, and that was the cause of the two leaks. Now I know that the rim strip needs to be perfectly centered when installing or fixing tubes, but I wish it was just a few millimeters wider to avoid this problem completely. ... show more

The purpose of a rim strip is pretty basic - protect the innertube from the tops of the spokes inside the wheel. These rim strips were perfect for a 16 inch wheel. Slightly stretchy, they stayed in place while I changed the innertube.
