My wife wanted a statue of the virgin Mary for the outside. I ordered this one in the granite color. It stay inside the house for quite a while. She met a fellow at church whose daughter paints. She asked him, if she painted statues. He said he would ask his daughter. She said that she would painted and took it. When she returned it, she said not to pay her and that she painted it with love. Of course my wife paid her because she was very pleased and grateful. Then she hired a lawn man to fixed the lawn and asked if he could please set her outside. He said he would be glad to do it. He fixed it so that it would be anchored to the ground. He also said "do not pay me for that, I did it with love." My wife says that she is grateful that this virgin came to us and sent the right people at the right time so that she could sit outside protect our home. My wife has even seen cars stop and admire her. This has been a blessing and I hope that your home can be blessed with her as our has been. Salve Regina pray for us. ... show more

    • Don't fill it completely with sand!

Beautiful statue. The granite grey looks great in our garden. One word of warning, do NOT fill it completely with sand. Only add about 3 or 4 inches of sand into the bottom of the statue. If you fill it up into the body of the statue the weight of the sand will cause the statue to buckle and sag under the weight of the sand when it's hot. We learned this the hard way, however after removing the extra sand, we were able to "pop" her back into position again. ... show more

Beautiful statue of Our Blessed Mother! Love that it is resin. I used about 5 lbs of sand inside and it hasn’t tipped over once in the month I’ve had it. I did shave a few plastic flakes off where the sides of the mold came together but that was no big deal. I had read other reviewers say they had to also, which I’d say is typical of molded resin. It shipped in a very large box with NO PACKING MATERIAL at all inside! The box was much larger than the statue which allowed the statue to slide and bump around. But thankfully the statue was not damaged at all. I really love my outdoor “grotto” I created with the statue. Our Lady has a special place in our yard now. Don’t hesitate to buy - you’ll be glad you did! ... show more

I purchased this for my mother as a gift for Mother's Day this year. She lives so far away. It's on a stone wall directly across from the kitchen sink window. She can see it day or night. Had to laugh when she called me. "Catherine!!! It's 3' tall!!! What am I going to do with this!!!" Thanks to the inspiration of others here, I shared what others had done with her. You can see her results. She's no longer able to drive and can't go to the cemetery, and Church isn't open. (She took care of her parents and my father's gravestone flowers). I wanted to give her something that was dear to her heart back in her life. Her only complaint was that it wasn't wrapped in the package. It was allowed to "rattle about" in the box. It looks like real stone. You really wouldn't know it's resin unless you tried to pick it up. We filled ours with water which unfortunately didn't hold. We have her upright again, but with our high winds that we receive in Ohio with strong storms, she's not going to stay put for long. I got the idea to try cat litter since it's something we need anyway with 2 cats. I'm going to order the heavier, cheaper clay litter. It should do the trick. I love her so very much that I'm ordering one for out front, too. We're not Catholic, but my family is. I attended Mass with my grandma and mom for a few years prior to getting married and moving. Our neighbors across the street had a similar statue up for years. It gave me comfort to look at it. I was very upset when they moved and the statue was removed. I adore our new statue, and look forward to having one out front, too! ... show more

I'm a bit of a Moai-snob, so when I say this is a great value, it is. Similar-sized statues can be $400-$500 from other companies. Granted, they make theirs out of resin, but this Moai is very heavy-duty high impact plastic. Here are some benefits of plastic. The color isn't painted. It's molded in color, so it will never flake off. Has a bit of 'give' if it gets bumped hard and won't crack. Lastly, this moai isn't completely open on the bottom. It has a circular hole with a plug, so you can weigh it down. I filled mine up with sand and rocks and it weighs about 200 pounds now. Not worried about it getting blown over or stolen. Excellent Virgin Mary garden statue. This is my second purchase - I loved mine so much I purchased one for my daughter-in-law. There is a large opening in the bottom of the statue with a rubber "plug". I used a soldering iron to make a hole in the center of the rubber stopper, wide enough for a tall garden stake. I then hammered the stake in the ground where I wanted the statue; put the statue over the stake (it goes almost to the top of the statue), then put some garden stones on the base to help hold the statue down. Very impressed on the appearance and quality, especially for the price. Very lightweight, great for setting it around to determine placement before filling. It took about a 50# bag of sand to fill, which was easy to do. The bottom plug set in easily without spillage when turned upright.
