  • Great for motherboards with few (or no) USB headers
I'm building a "retro" DOS/Windows 98/2K PC with an NOS Slot I 440EX MATX motherboard. The onboard USB version of the nearly quarter century old motherboard is only the slow version 1.0 and there are no board headers, regardless. Using a PCI USB card works, but the single header on the card isn't enough for the USB 2.0 devices I have. Four devices; two USB jacks on the case front and the CF/SD/USB card reader in the 3.5 bay. I was envisioning buying an external USB hub and somehow powering from a MOLEX connector. Then I found this. Unpowered and perfect for my needs. I actually only needed half of the card, so I split it and de-pinned the cable. The double sided 3M tape is ridiculously sticky and holds the device fast in place. It works great in Windows 98 SE and 2000. My only criticism would be that there isn't a USB type A connector included as well, since most internal PCI cards have that as a connector rather than the IDC type headers. But, for the price point, this is understandable, and certainly not worth taking a star. I'm quite happy with it and am looking forward to never seeing it again once I get the cabling properly managed. ... show more

  • For me, it was 50% failure.
I ordered two of these. One worked. One didn't work. I have had prior orders of these internal USB header multipliers not work so, I ordered two. Despite the 50% failure rate, they were still pretty economical, when compared to others, (and other options like it), which are listed in search results.

  • Buy this item if you like useless garbage!
Do not buy! These cheap, Chinese USB 2.0 header hubs are bound to fail, because they can't satisfy power requirements for lighting/fan controllers prevalent in gaming PCs where they are typically installed. I have bought 4 of these from different companies, and all have failed. The remedy is to buy a USB hub that also steals power from a SATA cable from your PSU, and consider the problem solved. In all 4 of my systems, I have replaced them with NZXT USB hubs with SATA power, and no problems have arisen since then. I would recommend spending the extra $15 for one of those hubs, instead of being a cheapskate and causing yourself a headache when your $10 Chinese USB hub stops working. Good luck! ... show more
