  • Excellent (though not quite perfect) Pi 3 or 4 Screen
This is an excellent solution for adding an LCD to a Raspberry Pi project. The included mounts and clever 'U' shaped adapters meant that I could mount the Pi directly to the back of the screen and connect HDMI and Touch without bulky cables sticking out all over the place! This is going to drive my 3d Printer's OctoPi, but I could definitely find other uses for this design due to how low profile the kit overall is. I deducted 1 star because the screen quality was...well let's just say I'm not convinced that it's actually an IPS panel. Viewing angles leave much to be desired and the screen has that "grainy" or "speckled" look to it that LCDs of poorer quality sometimes have - thankfully it's only noticeable up close or when the background is very bright/white. Overall I wouldn't really want this to be used in a situation where display quality was a major factor such as for gaming, watching videos, etc, but for an IoT display that's more about function than display quality, it does the job. The included fan is very quiet and was a nice addition, though I'm not sure if the thermal tape provided to adhere it to the Pi is actually THERMAL tape or just double sided tape, so I'll probably replace it with proper double-sided thermal tape ASAP. I really hope to see Elecrow produce a 7" or 10" version that uses the 'U' shaped adapters (and a higher quality screen) - the simple addition of those low profile adapters passing A/V/Touch while not cluttering up the GPIO ports opens up a huge world of possible uses for Pi projects. ... show more

  • Great screen nicely designed for RPi with minor buggy issues
This 5 inch screen is great, with brightness and volumn tuning button. You only use a power supply cable to make it work. It is a little bit expensive compared with other 5 inch screen (but the improvement is considerable for the price difference) I tested it both on Pi 3B+ and Pi 4, it seem the dimension of micro HDMI to HDMI adapter is not that exact correct, but it can be plugged in anyhow. One bug I met was that, when I connect the Pi4 to the screen, the Wi-Fi of Pi 4 is unstable. My Pi 4 Wi-Fi may disconnect from my router sometimes (I prefer to work on it thru vnc/ssh on my laptop, the wifi break down will make the vnc/ssh connection fail). And I try to connect to the Wi-Fi mannually but it does not work sometimes. I am not sure whether the wireless signal is disturbed by the screen, hope someone who also use Pi 4 can give some feedback. ... show more

  • Worked and than it didn't but don't fret.... It'll prolly work for you
Firstly, I have to say this little monitor is perfect for seeing the vitals of my PC. Unfortunately for me I bought a new case and somewhere in switching to the new case it stopped working. Well my mobo said usb overload switching off power so it doesn't fry. I'm paraphrasing of course. I have the exact same setup with nothing new except the new tower has usb c front panel not just 2 usb 2 3.0 so that might have done something. I am also unsure if the fan hub needs the usb connection and the sata so there's that. Personally, I would recommend this screen as it does it's job. I think something else is to blame for the malfunctioning. I honestly do not know at this point. I don't want to return it because I threw away the packaging. It is a great value for 60 bucks and I hope it works for you. P.s. I didn't use the touch feature so I don't know how that works. ... show more

  • One year later, still great
Used this to set up a mini display screen inside by PC case that shows temperatures, GPU usage ect. Works great. comes with several different connectors with different angles to help mount in different ways. Screen looks great and has held up over a year with no issues at all. Plugged into USB port for power and data and my Windows 10 recognized the screen right away. One issue is that the screen never turns off, even when asleep the monitor remains on but the screen goes black. Not a huge issue and could be something that is adjusted in PC. USB ports typically always supply power, even when the PC is off. ... show more

  • It's barely ok and has major tearing issues!
The good things first: the screen works with the Pi 4 I tested on; the touch screen works; and the sound also works. The really bad: It has a bad case of screen tearing. This is with the latest fresh install of standard Raspberry Pi OS. I tried everything to make the tearing go away to no avail. This could be a show stopper if you need the screen for games or fast video. The not so good: I really do not think this is an IPS screen as the viewing angles are pretty small. Nowhere in the docs or online does it mention that this is an IPS screen except this amazon listing. Also, there is a grainy speckled quality to the displayed image like really cheap TFT screens of yore. Overall for what it is I think the screen is way overpriced. Things to know: The screen has TWO protective films on it that need to be removed, The first one is very obvious, but the second one is stuck on pretty good and hard to tell that it is even there. Even the green tab that is supposed to help you remove it, just peels of without removing the film. Just stick the green tab back on and try again, my worked on the third try. Config.txt settings they give are wrong and actually contradict each other. This shows you that the manufacturer really has no idea what they are doing. This what you should have: # this forces the Pi to use the screen, and the second line enables the HDMI audio hdmi_force_hotplug=1 hdmi_drive=2 # this is for the touch overlay: dtoverlay=ads7846,cs=1,penirq=25,penirq_pull=2,speed=50000,keep_vref_on=0,swapxy=0,pmax=255,xohms=150,xmin=200,xmax=3900,ymin=200,ymax=3900 The Pi detects the mode of the screen just fine so you do not need to add the following, in fact it has zero effect (does not fix the tearing either) but if you insist (this forces 800x480p 60Hz mode): hdmi_group=2 hdmi_mode=87 hdmi_cvt=800 480 60 6 0 0 0 Make sure you disable the overscan or you will get black borders all around. To disable overscan go to raspi-config either the GUI or the CLI works for this. ... show more
