On my Mitutoyo the diameter of the ground ends read exactly the same at .99555. Nicely packaged in a clear plastic not-roll-away screw-together tool tube like for a really big drill bit. Ends wrapped in greasy paper. Has a satisfying heft to it. Comes with a manual you don't need. Beware negative reviews from some who didn't read up first and complain about concentricity of the aluminum bar which is not for indicating, only the ground ends are. No part of this is meant for chucking, only for dead centers, for the purpose of aligning in the tailstock, just as its name says. ... show more

    • For a what it is, it's great.
I'm seeing about plus minus 0.5 tho. Not bad for most and there 8×18 table lathe. Its honestly kinda surprising honestly. I was expecting it to be a couple of tho of runout. But for it's intended market, it might just be the most accurate thing in there.

The end caps are precision ground and are what you care about. The middle section doesn’t matter. Using this I was able to get the tail stock within .0002in pretty quick. It works as indented and is cheaper and faster than making your own (unfortunately).

I was having issues lining up my tailstock. I used this bar and an indicator in my toll post, and another top down and the results were an eye opener. Slight variances as I locked the tailstock and as I applied pressure tuned me into how to eliminate those variables. I am extremely pleased with this test bar. ... show more
