  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Generally happy
2000 2.5l 126” WB. Was a perfect fit. No cutting, no modifying, no nothing. I cut the old rusty exhaust out with a grinder and sawzall and had the new exhaust installed in about the same amount of time it took me to remove the old system. Maybe 45 minutes total. It’s not as quiet as the stock exhaust by any means, but it’s not obnoxious either. The good thing is it’s not rusting off of my truck like the old system was, and it doesn’t rattle as I roll down the road! For a few bucks more than the OE style aluminized tin can exhaust I’m pretty certain this will outlast the truck. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to install and looks great
The system was very easy to install on my 2004 Ford Ranger XLT. The hardest part of the job was removing the old, factory-installed, all-in-one exhaust system from the cat flange back. I had to soak the spring bolts in liquid wrench and grab the nuts with vice grips to get them off. Once freed from the hangers and the catalytic converter flange, the original one-piece system would not pull out due to inadequate room to pull through (the rear shock and brake lines prevent me from pulling the system backward or forward). So I took a sawzall to cut the pipe at both ends of the muffler near the welds to the pipe, and then I was able to remove the old system in three pieces. In addition, it was a bit difficult to remove the old system mounting rods from the rubber insulators/hangers. A little WD40 and bearing grease helped with sliding the mounts out of the rubber insulators. It was still a pain to get them off. Fortunately, the mounts that come with this kit are smooth without knobs on the ends (like the factory ones), so they slip in and out of the insulators with ease. As to the Dynomax kit specifically, it did not come with a bolt, washer, and lock nut for the muffler clamp (I don't know if that was intended or simply missed when they packaged the system). So, I had to make a quick trip to a local auto parts store for a 1/4-inch stainless steel bolt (20 mm long), washers, and lock nut. I also recommend that when you purchase this kit, you also pick up a tube of Permatex muffler and tailpipe sealer. I put a bead of the sealer at the joints connecting both ends of the muffler and then more under the two clamps at the joints. I tried it without the sealer and could not get a good seal. The sealant, however, worked like a charm - no leaks whatsoever. I also recommend purchasing replacement spring bolts (2 bolts); to me, it was worth the extra $$$ to have fresh bolts to work with. The sound from this muffler is slightly deeper then the factory muffler that came with the truck. The difference is most noticeable when the truck kicks into lower gear when climbing up hills. Overall, this is a great system that someone with basic mechanical skills (like me) could easily install. I'm very pleased with this purchase and most definitely give it 5 out 5 stars. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, a quiet ford!
Great kit. It really is all stainless. Very nice gauge metal too, this is going to last no doubt about it. For years I have put the "alumacore" mufflers from the local parts stores on. They are thin and rust out every 2-3 years in the midwest. My ranger, while i love working on it, is just annoying when it has a loud exhaust. I got really tired of spending $250 every 3 years and thats after 6 months of noisy exhaust just because I tried to stretch it out as long as I could. For those with rangers, and you are having trouble with the flanged seal (the one at the catalytic converter), i just cut mine off. there is plenty of room to put a flex pipe on there, and its MILES better than fords flanged deal that always ends up leaking. In addition to this exhaust kit, you need these parts (note, not every component to these parts are stainless. You simply cant do this all in stainless as I cannot find these in stainless anywhere, however these still use the removable clamps so if it ever does rust out its easy and cheap to fix this mod). Most of these you can find on Amazon with Prime. 22506DN 2.25" ID stainless steel flexible exhaust pipe (search the scary auction site for 22506DN. Amazon, carry this part please!). Make sure its 2.25" ID! (Inner Diameter) 2 x 33231 Dynomax (Walker) Mega Clamps 2.25". You need two of these! 41962 Dynomax (Walker) Pipe Reducer 2.5 ID to 2.25 OD 33226 Dynomax (Walker) Mega Clamp 2.5" 35959 Walker Hardware Sealing Compound (just to make sure there will never be a leak!) Now, just take your sawzall and cut off the flange on your catalytic converter. Done with that stupid thing! Now, fit your new mod kit together finger tight and measure where you need to cut the intermediate tube on the new dynomax muffer kit. I had to cut off about halfway up the intermediate pipe. Now you can fit it into your mod's clamp band, and youre done! No more stupid ford flange that leaks with bolts too rusty to take off! No more stupid springs either! Don't forget to use the muffler sealer before you final fit everything together! Peace! ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to install good quality exhaust
I purchased this kit to replace the stock exhaust on my 2010 Ranger Extra Cab (2.3 4-cyl) that had developed an annoying exhaust leak. Everything went together smoothly but the included exhaust clamps (which are very nice) did not clamp things down tight enough so I ended up with exhaust leaks at the front and rear of the muffler. I drove it around like this for several days and almost got buyers' remorse because the exhaust was quite a bit louder than stock and had a pronounced drone around 1800-2000 rpm. Following another reviewers suggestion, I used Permatex Muffler and Tailpipe Sealer paste at the muffler joints and it seems to be sealed up nicely. Now it has quieted down and all that is left is a satisfyingly throatier / deeper exhaust note exiting from the nice new exhaust tip. If the exhaust is sealed properly, it will be only slightly louder than the stock system, but with a deeper tone. Despite the sealing issue, I think it is still a very nice kit with quality parts that is pretty easy to install....just use the sealer, or have a muffler shop weld it for you. ... show more
